Posted by: snackajacks Apr 23 2012, 08:54 PM

I am very interrested in seeing what jobs people have in here.
Office during daylight and playing heavy metal
at night ?

In 3 weeks I have my exam in High School Economics and Society.( that's why I am not too active in here wink.gif )
My job is at a chipsbaker ( I think you call it like that smile.gif ) before this I worked at a Musicstore that broke down
and before that I worked at a Cinema and my first job was at Mcdonalds.

I am very interested in your jobs/educations :'D

greetings from where it is raining all day long.

I have studied geography and finished university 4 years ago. In Germany, the degree is called "Diplom", which equals a Master of Science in other countries. I focused on economic geography in my Masters thesis.
Now I work in business development in a city in the southwest of Germany. I am responsible for the development of an industrial area, meaning I care about the companies that already are in the industrial area, helping them out whenever they need something from the city administration, so they will only have to talk to me and I take care of the rest biggrin.gif And a main part is to promote the industrial area so that more companies will come here. That's the short version wink.gif

Physical therapist, finished school January and got a job 1st of February 37 hours each week, but only for 6 months, unless someone leaves or has a baby, so they need me. Mostly shoulder and hip rehabilitation as group training, and a lot of individuel therapy, some more than 90 years old, youngest yet 16 years old. Also a group for people who had strokes, this is not rehabilitation, but to see they maintain current levels.

Application architect/programming by day, and music by night. I work a typical 9-5 in the states, followed by family time til around 9:30 when they go to bed, then I pick up my gear and head to my studio from 10:00 til about 2:00 a.m. where I practice, then rinse and repeat. Pretty much my life story right there. Oh, but I do go out to play on Tuesday nights! Hi lite of my week actually - playing live in front of real people!

I am a cook at a bar/restaurant. I typically work Sunday-Wednesday for four hours a day so I can chase my dreams and play music for 12 hours a day. I make just enough to pay bills and purchase the gear that I need. Oh yeah! I practice with my band on Wednesdays, and every once in awhile, I will spend a full day or two in the studio learning from my friend who owns the studio and his own record label here in Southern California. Yup. That is my dull existence tongue.gif

Posted by: SpaseMoonkey Apr 24 2012, 01:56 AM

I basically do factory work for a very well known bakery in the states. I work 10+ hours a day typically with 3 days off. Which the hours kill my guitar time because it's a very demanding job. But soon I hope to change this.

I repair aircraft. Mostly single engine, some twin engine and a little bit of helicopter work ( I used to do a lot of helicopter work in a former job). My specialty is Avionics (aircraft electronics) but I get involved in almost every aspect of aircraft repair (sheet metal, motors, welding, fiberglass).
I also fly. The aircraft in the picture to the left I built myself (with some help from my friends) and fly in airshows.

Well shucks thanks! smile.gif We used MAYA @ Turner Studios where I worked. It's loads of fun smile.gif I like AFTER EFFECTS too but it's more of a compositing/layering tool than a 3D creation tool. Although the new version of After Effects works in 3D space and will allow you to import 3D animation data from MAYA! smile.gif GAME SCHOOL is the new FILM SCHOOL they say where creative folks go to get sharp! Enjoy it! And learn some code base! C++, Visual Basic, just pick a spiff one wink.gif

The secret to getting goot with animation/fx/guitar, pretty much anything, is simple. PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! smile.gif If you are willing to exclude certain things from your life, so that you can focus on getting really good at any given thing, you'll notice you can make better progress than those around you. Of course there is a price to be paid. I'm not married, or even dating just now as I still spend wads of free time writing/composing/practicing instead of going out and such. I need to add some of that back in smile.gif I tend to focus too much and for too long actually which can have it's own drawbacks believe it or not. So strive for balance if at all possible smile.gif

Here is a shot of the awards table (otherwise known as a drinks table) at the D.A.E.L. studio at work. I let them borrow my awards as they only had one. I was really lucky to work with a great team at Turner Broadcasting and we won wads of broadcasting awards. It was fun!

Mastering engineer and co-owner of a mastering studio as my full time job - 6 days a week 8:30-6 pm.

In addition I do occassional work for a couple of UK Universities as a post graduate marker and examiner for Masters and PhDs. I've written a couple of books, edited some academic publications and occassionally publish academic articles. I also referree for a few academic journals and publishers and once in a blue moon copy edit.

Education and qualifications (I get bored easily and do these to pass the time.):

Undergraduate degrees - BA (PPE), BSc (Chemistry) and BA (Sociology).
Post grad - PGCE, MBA, MSc (Analytical Chemistry) and MA (Sociology)
Doctoral - PhD (Philosophy)
Post Doc - D Litt. (Philosophy)

Memberships etc - CChem MRSC (Chartered Chemist) retired, M AES (Member Audio Engineering Society), FRA.

Some awards - did the post audio on two extended broadcasts that won Sony Music Industry awards and also did the post on a third that was nominated.

MBA received a commendation as it was one of the three 'best' (whatever that meant) in that University in the year I completed. PhD also got the same sort of thing, though it was national ans was one of five rather than three.

I also own a 4 acre small holding and so manage that with my wife.

Nice topic! I've read every post in it. It's fun to read what everyone does when they're not over here.

I used to work at an office for a large worldwide watches and jewelry brand. I was employee on the customer service department. It was fun while it lastet, but I always knew I wanted something different. Something that meant something to me, healthcare.
So, that's why I'm very happy that I got a job in a hospital over here in the Netherlands. In september I start as a trainee in anaesthesia. I'm gonna work in the surgery room itself, where all the action is happening biggrin.gif !

CAn't wait!

*Big Breath*
I'm qualified as a Chef, have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, have worked as a Draughtsman and Steelwork Designer, a Toolmaker, Hydraulic Engineer, ran my own Decorating Company, ran my own Pub, spent 18 months touring with a Band. (Not necessarily in that order!!)
Currently I work as a Landscaper, work Part time in a Bar, I help out in a friends Music Shop doing Guitar Tech/ Repairs/Set-ups and build Custom Guitars for people and am studying to qualify as an Electrician!
In my spare time......
Oh wait........
I don't have much of that!!!

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Apr 25 2012, 08:37 AM

Well...I have a college degree in mechanical engineering and an English translator official certificate - engineering has developed me as an individual and I do not regret the fact that I have studied this smile.gif

Early this year, I have started a small web/ graphic design company (after trying to focus only on music for a few months - I guess it's not yet possible, BUT ONE DAY!) with a friend. I am also teaching offline, playing with Voodoo and Aria and occasionally at 'Mozart Rocks!' - since it's a big event, it only happens a few times a year.

These are my main activities alongside GMC, which has slowly become a very important aspect in my life

Web applications developer - was studying CS at university then got offered this job unconditionally - took it, dropped university now I'm doing this and running a business with another MD / CEO (not related to my primary job at all) on the side. Since then, barely any time to play guitar - but I've literally given my weekends up now to play guitar and just that (playing twice a week for 7 hours a day).

I have a BSEE degree from the University of New Mexico. Then I got my MBA from University of Reno. I've worked as a digital electronics engineer doing circut design at board and chip level, then moved into software. I worked as a Software Engineering Manager for 7 years before deciding that my passing is as a designer/developer so I went back to engineering. I'm currently a Staff Software Engineer at a large gaming company.

have a Computer Engineering degree lying around somewhere in the room. I gave up studies while at college. got into web design (used to love art while in school), good that I gotto to buy a computer for that degree otherwise I would still not be using a computer. smile.gif

Now, own a small web company, do mostly WordPress themes and other apps for web. Work from home, baby sit and play guitar here and there. Planning to perform acoustic set weekly with my vocalist in a month or two. smile.gif

Wow, lots of software developers.

I am also a software developer smile.gif I work in the insurance industry and in my spare time I am trying to munge music/programming/helping people together into something profitable and satisfying.

I really want to be able to make a difference to peoples lives you know? To actually contribute something positive, I think music is the perfect vehicle for that.

I went to a two year college to get a degree in computers. I wanted to make my life with computers. I earned an Associate of Applied Science in Information Systems Technology - Microcomputers. I graduated with highest honors. Computer jobs were hard to come by around my area of farmlands. I sought a job at places that were not computer-related because I soon really, really needed a job.

I now have been working at Walmart since September 26th of last year. I was hired as a cashier, intending to only make this my holding place until I found a job that was "me" in the computer field. I quickly found out that I loved people much more than computers. biggrin.gif You can reason with a computer, but at least with people you can talk with them and find out the problem. I found out I have tons more patience with people than computers. If the computer freezes...OOOH!!! :{ But I am such a people person and I enjoy the thought of helping people all the time at a company.

I am now on my way to making Walmart my career. I have been working overnights stocking shelves, just trying to get some more experience. I hope to be a department manager one day, or perhaps a store manager! My store manager is working with me to get me where I want to be. Mangers notice those who desire to be a part of the company. wink.gif That's why he offered this open door to overnight stocking. I have learned so much in the recent days!
