In your Breaking Down Drop A lesson, how come those chords you play sound pretty, and when I play it, it sounds harsh? How are you getting that sound?

In your Breaking Down Drop A lesson, how come those chords you play sound pretty, and when I play it, it sounds harsh? How are you getting that sound? Hey mate! I'm using a very mildly overdriven tone and I play 16th notes as evenly as possible other than that, no big secret those chords are pretty tough, I know and getting them flow will take a little work, but it's not that difficult once you give it some time |

Hey man I was reading your post over in the "Game of modes" thread about how to ephasize the mixolydian mode. I understand your answer, at least as far as using G7 and G7sus4 when G is the 5th degree of C Major Scale. My question is what is a Vamp? I haven't come across this term yet, and was wondering what it referred to?

Good morning mate To be a little more precise, here are the definitions I could coax out of the info I found: VAMP = A vamp is a repeated phrase, often referring to something that is laid down and built on by jazz and funk players. It is distinguished from a "loop" because variations are slowly built in by improvisation. Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island" and Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" could be said to be built out of a vamp. More info on 'vamping' could be found here -> Click me |

That makes it a lot clearer, I think I have actually been doing this in some of my jazz playing and didn't even know it Also, that website you linked in your post is awesome, has lots of interesting theory stuff besides the info on vamps, I think I'll bookmark it and read through some of the other stuff as well! -------------------- My Sound Cloud Profile: http://soundcloud.com/casinostrat
