Question To Lian About A Fitting Power Metal Tuning. Options

Hey there Lian!

In a few weeks I'm getting my guitar set up professionally by a very good Luthier.. But I'm in doubt about the actual tuning I should get it set up for. I'm mainly doubting between D standard and Eb standard tuning. I really love the D standard tuning heavyness, but I'm afraid it might not be 'tight' enough compared to Eb for alot of power metal stuff in the styles of Kamelot, I seriously LOVE that percussive palm muted sound:p

So I'm here to ask you, if I get my guitar setup for D standard using a 0.10-0.52 set of strings, do you think I'll lose tightness compared to Eb standard? Asking you since you seem to be the expert around here on symphonic and power metal;)

The guitar has a floyd rose so I really need to get it set up for a single tuning and keep it like that:p

hey man, sorry for delay on this. I'm quite busy on my band's recordings.

I definitely would go for Eb tuning. since bands you like are mostly in that tuning.
another point to take in mind is, here, there's a lot of lessons already in that tuning (Eb), mines and Marcus Siepen's from Blind Guardian just to name a few.
if you are focused on practice and on improve your skills, I suggest you to go for the Eb tuning.

on the other hand, you won't lose tightness by choosing D tuning. is not that different than Eb tuning, so... make your choice and let me know what you will do.

Thanks for the reply, and no need to apologice, I'm just happy with an answer, not in a hury anyways so..

You actually made me change my mind xD I think for now I'll give Eb standard a shot, and in a year or so give D standard a shot if I still feel the need^^ Do you mind if I ask what string gauge you use? Think I'm going to give the 0.010 0.046 set a shot:)

I'm using 0.10 from ernie ball since 2005.
I tried on my other guitar 0.11 for a while, but it's not that good if you are a lead guitar player. for rhythmic guitar is very cool, since you got more attack and a fatter sound, but problem comes while soloing. :S

I'm using 0.10 from ernie ball since 2005.
I tried on my other guitar 0.11 for a while, but it's not that good if you are a lead guitar player. for rhythmic guitar is very cool, since you got more attack and a fatter sound, but problem comes while soloing. :S

also, if you got floyd rose, be sure you always get the same set of strings, 'cause once you set your guitar up with this not-too-common set you'll need to keep in that way until a next calibration.

Yeh I know:p I'm lucky enough for having ALOT of music shops near so that isn't an issue for me xD Weird thing is, I keep reading about metalheads shredding in shops, and I honestly haven't heared a single other metal guitarist but me in the area:S All are classic rock/blues/punk, makes it hard to find a band
I might be giving the 10-52 set a shot instead:p Heavy bass strings for fat powerchords and light gauge treble strings for soloing sounds too good^^
