First I wanna say your new tapping lesson sounds realy nice!

My brother has a bass and it looks like http://www.behringer.com/BASS-GUITAR-PACK/index.cfm?lang=ENG

His isn't the real Fender Precision Bass, but a copie from "Volcano". Now the problem is the action on that guitar. The gap between his strings and the fretboard is almost a centimeter. It is possible to change the saddleheight, but won't help more that two milimeter. Is it normal for basses to have so much action? I think if he plays your tapping lesson, it won't sound because the only thing you hear is strings slamming on the fretboard...

grtz,

Thanks for question.. smile.gif

I have the action of 0.5 cm measured on 12th fret E string.I find that little high too but I am used to it..Many basses especially cheaper ones have that problem with action (it being too high). For some playing styles like slap its cool because your bass sounds better that way , but for others like tapping its not really.I recommend you to lower the saddles as much as you can, also maybe some neck adjustments would be nice (I no expert on that one)..And the most useful thing I did on my bass (I can't lower the saddles any more than this) to lower the action was to use the lighter strings on it.Now I use Ernie Ball Round Wound Extra Slinky Bass Guitar Strings 40-95. They have : 40-60-70-95 gauges and sound really great for everything..And as soon as I put lighter strings my action got smaller.. smile.gif
About slamming the strings on fretboard when playing the lesson, you can do it on that action too but on muscles wink.gif Press the string AND hold it pressed on particular fret for sound to come out and quite force to do it is required too generally..

I hope I helped a little.. wink.gif

I really like your bass sound and technique. Is there any chance of you doing a Geddy Lee style lesson?

I've been looking at some basses lately, and I really wanna start playing to be able to add some non-artificial basslines to songs I make.. So I was wondering if you know of some cheap, yet good bass?
Kinda like Schecter when it comes to guitar.. The cheap Schecters are the best of their priceclass, no doubt! (Atleast from my own and friends experiences smile.gif )

Hello!

From cheap basses I always recommend Peavey ones because I have tried them and here in my country they are best buy considering price/quality ratio...

Any of these 3 basses should be a really good sounding choice :

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Millennium-BXP-4String-Bass-Guitar?sku=511369
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Millennium-4-AC-BXP-4String-Bass?sku=511400
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Grind-Bass-4-BXP-NTB-Electric-Bass-Guitar?sku=511363

That second Millenium that has active electronics Is a good option to consider but the passive one should work cool as well and that is the cheapest option when it comes to bass that sounds good.Active one may have greater tone versatility but may also EAT batteries like crazy , I hate my peavey bass for that (batteries)...

Now here in Serbia stores do have tons of different guitars but when it comes to bass , the choice is slim smile.gif Like they think - no one plays the bass... smile.gif

Regarding Schecters I heard good things about their basses haven't tried one..If you like their guitars you can try bass why not..

They have two in the price range :

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Omen4-4String-Bass-Guitar?sku=513122
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Stiletto-Deluxe4-Bass?sku=513047

Of course from these two choices I recommend peavey because I tried it and its a safe bet (for me) but I also feel that Schecters are cool also...

It would be best if you could try out those basses and get the one that feels best to you..Pay attention to string height (some basses have it very high and you can't lower it), sound and general feel..
Active electronics can be a better option if you don't have a good bass amp so you rely on your bass to output cool bass sound...With active electronics you can dial in a very good bass sound and record directly from bass (through DI box or any recording interface)...But they drain batteries...

Hope some of this tips helps ...

I had this pedal for quite some time now and I really like its sound. Its an analog envelope filter pedal and it really gives out cool sounding and very organic envelope auto wah sound. Its very suited for bass.
You can find 'em cheap on ebay. Only flaw I found with this one is that it makes a volume drop when engaged (but not too much)...

Its a DOD FX25B pedal. This one has the Blend control which is very useful. But if you can find the older version from 70s which doesen't have that knob, its said that its even better.

Regarding its sound, its sound exactly same as one Flea is using in this video (he is using older model without blend control) but my pedal sound exactly the same :

That is indeed a great pedal, I'm planning on getting one in couple of days too.
