GMC Forum _ REC _ (9, Pass) Surfing With Satriani

Posted by: WeePee Feb 26 2012, 12:44 PM

Original lesson: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Surfing-With-Satriani/

I haven't put anything in REC for awhile so here it is. This was also a Bushido 5 task from Mr. Higgins. I really like Zsolt's tone on the lesson and I found this "Satched Van51" tone from Guitar Rig 5. Cheers -Ville- Note to instructor that this backing is transposed into E tuning. Hope it's okay ?

Good job!
Timing was great and I like the sound you chose!
When you played D chord it sounded out of tune probably it's a floyd rose
Other than that great take!

Hey V-Master ! cool.gif

As you already know, I absolutely love this tone biggrin.gif

I already mentioned in the Busido thread about hitting the open A string along with the D string when playing that main riff, instead of just the D string on its own. It'll make the whole thing sounds thicker.

The chord vibrato on the bit at 0:12 is slightly sharp. You just pulled the strings out a bit, that's all. You can definitely make chord vibrato work there but try to keep it even by allowing the 'vibrating' note to come back to its starting pitch in between each bendy bit, if you know what I mean ?

That chord bit you introduced at 0:15 sounds a little awkward because I think you've also caught the G string as well, which adds an unwanted note to the 5th+root shape you were aiming for. I know what you were trying to achieve.. you can make it work by not allowing the underside of your finger to fret the G string and also make sure you only strum the A and D strings smile.gif

Hi friend! It's a good take with good timing. IT has some chords that sound weird like the one at 00:14, and it seems that the reason is that you don't do the barre well with your left hand. The other thing that you should work on is the double string playing with your right hand, you should play it stronger to make both string sound at the same level. It's also very important what Ben says about the main riff. By the way, the take is good, it just needs some little adjustments. wink.gif

It is good. i I notice that the guitar is out of tune a bit ,on some riffs ?! The timing is Ok, but there is little dynamic imbalance in the playing of power chords. Both tone should to sound equally clear, in most cases i hear only dominating keynote . Nothing terrible, but only to pay attention to wink.gif. Once again, good work !!

Some small problems with timing and small problems with detuning. You are rushing the take all the time, try to ease up just a tiny bit and it will be great.
