Hey guys!! I was checking this guitar lesson by the Incubus guitar player and I think that it includes some really inspiring ideas and concepts.

That was pretty insightful,

I think a chord in a different inversion turns out to be almost a different chord because it does sound different,

In this point is where you shouldn't mix too much theory but rather listen to the actual chords and make judgements based on what you hear, because sometimes we consider an Am being the same as, say an Am in second inversion just because they have the same notes, but actually they sound really different, so you should find the best use for each chord,

Totally agree! Big Incubus/ Mike Einziger fan here and I also like the idea of experimenting with various abstract chord shapes! You never know what beautiful surprises and melodies might come up biggrin.gif

Exactly!! Here you won't find weird chords but if you pay attention to the verse, I'm playing 3 chords all the time but I change the inversions in every round to make it evolve... the chords are D5 (sometimes Dsus2) - F - C

I remember that some years ago Incubus took a hiatus of 1 year, and he dedicated that time to study composition. He keeps on growing as a musician all the time.
