Neumann - who are famous for producing some of the best studio microphones bar none have just announced that they will be taking over the tracking/mixing end of monitor design and production for Klein and Hummel. (K&H presumably will continue to produce and brand their own mastering monitors like the 0300, 0400 and 0500 series.) Neumann and K&H have both been part of the Sennheiser group for a few years.
First will be a two way near field up date of the K&H110d. It's set to retail for 'less than 650 Euros' and is aimed at the upper end of the prosumer/home studio market. Anyone looking for near field's in this price range should probably check it out as the K&H 110 were good and Neumann say they have improved on it. Neumann have also announced that they're manufacturing a new digital mic interface, the DMI8. This will connect 8 digital mics via AES42 to digital AES/EBU or ADAT. Upto 16 DMI8's can be daisy chained as well. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. BTW - first pro recording studio I worked in way back we used to use Neumanns regularly to record electric guitar as the U87i seemed to work particularly well as a distance mic with them usually with a standard SM58 close to the speaker. The chief engineer used to tell us to use them as just leaving them sitting in the mic store was a waste of money. IME they're no where near as fragile as some people think . First couple of radio broadcast stations I worked in all used Neumanns as well. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. Very interesting news, especially about the mic interface. Wonder what will be price/performance. Neumann is standard for high end here also, we recorded vocals on one of them for our album and they sounded awesome.
