GMC Forum _ Ben Higgins _ Vibrato Odyssey 5

Hi Ben,
how are you?

Finally I started the lesson Vibrato Odyssey 5. My notes don't have the long sustain like yours. Among other things, can it be also a problem of tone and setting? I add some compression. Any tips?

Thanks in advance. Kindest regards,
Carmine

Hi Carmine,

If we ignore some of the other contributing factors to tone like pick ups and gear etc, then yes, you would look at tone first. From most of your playing that I've heard so far, you use a mostly clean sound. I would recommend using a bit more gain to get notes that sustain for longer.

I don't use a compressor on my guitar sound so I can't give good advice about it but I do remember trying one years ago and it did really boost the signal and make things sound better. It might be worth asking the compressor question in the forum and seeing if one of the other guys know more about using them and maybe they can also suggest some settings to try ? smile.gif

Apart from that, having enough gain is a key factor and also check that you're picking the string with enough force to give you a nice, ringing note smile.gif
