Hi CathShadow!! Welcome to your thread for the http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=43110!
Could you please tell me a bit about you, your musical tastes, influences, strengths and weaknesses? I would need some videos of you playing rhythm and solo guitar, so please post your best material here. If you have some music or ideas of your own, also post them here. Also let me know how you think that I can help you and what are your expectations for our job. You can check the other Army's thread to discover the different modalities of this project.
The principles of our Army are:
+ Improve your technique + Make music and solos + Have fun + Destroy the enemy (hahaha not realy just kidding... )

Hey Gabriel
Well, I have been playing now, for 3 years and a bit, I like metal, Rock, that sort of thing - Offspring are one of my favourites, flyleaf, Demon Hunter, Seventh Day Slumber, then some classic 80s rock too... generall this sort of style..
Influences... hmmm... Noodles/Dexter Holland; Orianthi, the guitarists in flyleaf... Some of my friends; you ...
Strengths.. hmmmm... I guess rhythm and some AP...
weaknesses: sweep, speed, lead , Improv...
The video is uploading, I will send the link as soon as I have it,
and maybe some samples of my own stuff... basically I want to become much better at rock - speed, and solo/lead

Hi man! Thanks for the description and also for the video that you sent me. On this first week we will start with some warming up/endurance exercises that I shared in my Vchat sessions. Here you have the link:
Work on this ones. Try to get a full tone of every note and to keep playing each one as a loop the more time than you can. Always stretch your arms and fingers before you start practising.
I have two questions:
What level of solo lessons do you use to learn here at GMC? What's your theory knowledge? Do you know triads, chords, scales and how to use them?

Cool I'll get right on that!
Well, I usually try level 4 lessons as far as solo - that's the highest I've tried... with varying success rates...
As for theory:
My theory is kind of mixed -> Triads I know are I, III, V from the scale,
As for Chords.. to make chord prgression from a scale take the I, IV, V chords, thats the most common right?
As for scales... I know more the box shapes than the scales (by heart) but I can work out at leas the major scale (WWHWWWH)...

Well, It's been a while,
But I've learned a few of the finger picking ones, (Raindrops - Dejan Farkus) those ones, the flyleaf style - Carlos Carrilla I did your Nirvana one, Tarantella Rock your Paramore style lesson -- but I only landed up doing the rhythm half,
These are the ones I remember... I suppose you could consider me a 'blank slate' o_O

Hi mate! Everything sounds good and clean on this video! Now it's time to use the legato exercises to work on resistance. I would like to have a new video of you playing some of those exercises as a loop for a minute or more.
Regarding the lessons for the REC, I think that we should go for the Paramore lesson that is a good lesson for rhythm guitar playing and very in your style.
Also, I would like you to select a collab to join. The idea is to work here your ideas until we have a solo that we like.
Check out this thread: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=41549

Hey Gab Here's a "so far" video of the paramore lesson, could I ask for your input?
Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Mar 13 2012, 07:22 PM
Hi mate! The take is very good! I just noted two moments where there is something weird about timing but the problem is very small. It's mostly in the palm muted parts when you end a riff, and is more notorious in the part that goes from 01:03 to 01:26. There you lose the tempo a bit so try to concentrate on that part. By the way you are on the right track. I would also like to hear you playing the second guitar.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Mar 26 2012, 07:15 PM
Hi man! Thanks for this take! The takes (both guitars) are good but have many timing issues, you really have to concentrate on that. I'm talking mostly about the first palm muting section and the melodies of the last part, that I think that you recording in a second take. The other sections are played good. So, with some timing adjust you will have a perfect take. Keep on working!

Hey Gab:
I tried concentrating and working on the timing...
so here's another take:
Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Apr 10 2012, 06:41 PM
Hi mate! The guitar that you are playing in the video sounds very good. The timing seems perfect on this one. The problem is with the other guitar that plays the leads and melodies. That one has timing issues and parts that don't sound good. It would be great if you can record that take again and insert also that video on this clip.

Wicked, thanks,
I'll get right on fixing that up ->
As far as adding the video...
I'm kind of curious how you got both guitar videos in yours?
I can't seem to do it with the software I have?

Hey Gab, I'm finally back.
Anyway, Recorded a soundclip take last night to get timing...
Welcome back mate! This take is very good. The timing is very good in general, maybe there are some VERY little parts where you are a bit before the beat but nothing too serious. Well done!

Well, I get my laptop back saturday. So on saturday I will record the video rec take. Until then, what should I work on? (right now just randomly playing things, which doesn't seem too productive)
Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi May 16 2012, 09:13 PM
Yes, it would be good to start working on new lesson. These are some suggestions:
Great mate! The take is very good! It just need some little adjust to be a 10, but I think that it's between 9 and 9.5. You have to make the higher melodies sound smoother tighter. Sometimes the notes sound bit muted and that makes the idea sound less fluid. Also, it would be great if you can illuminate the video a bit more the next time to allow us to see your hands motions better.
That's what you have to improve, but the overall is really good. I'll give you 9 at the Rec thread.

Thanks a lot Gab
At the moment, I'm working on the video you suggested (pop punk),
I'm also busy working on The Kids aren't Alright -> Having a bit of trouble with the VOCALS acutally (funny enough).. he sings real fast o_O So for this song I will probably play rhythm guitar.
I know most of the lead, just not all the bends -> (haven't figured out more than the first 3 or 4) and also that tune... I think I'm missing a note haha...
so yeah.. challenging times o_O... it's 1 month till I have to do 8 songs again live

Great list! Do you want to record yourself playing the offspring solo and I give you feedback?
Hi mate, this is going well. You have to be careful with timing because you play the parts at different tempos. It would be good if you can practice this over metronome or a backing track.

Can we do something with bends, and hammer-ons/pulloffs?
I seem to be weaker at these techniques..

How's it Gab: So my issue is with left hand, ring finger... when i do the pulloff on the high E string, I pull the entire string off the fretboard *facepalms*.. especially when my arm gets tired... -> Any advice on correcting this?

and this one for the Vchats: Logitech 9000: http://www.vootar.com/imgs/elementos/1265034829_LogitechQuickcamPro9000.jpg
by the way you can share a video sample here and I will tell you if It works.

Hey Gab,
Here's a video (with a slightly better camera) so you can see the movements,
I struggle a little in this one.
Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Sep 25 2012, 03:54 PM
Hi mate, thanks for the video. The lesson is evolving ok. You have to try to make each note sound at the same volume... if you check the video, you will notice that the higher notes of each position sound louder than the other ones. The position changes also need some adjustment, you should make the change smoother and end the pattern before you change the position... I think that you should practice this one at a slower tempo concentrating on keeping the notes volume and timing.
