GMC Forum _ Wiki Writers _ Wiki Guitarists Project

Posted by: Fran Apr 15 2009, 04:35 PM

Hi all cool.gif

I've been thinking lately about putting together a list (with your help!), containing the most important guitarists of all time, and see if we can slowly incorporate all of them into our wiki. As I didn't know where to start (there are zillions laugh.gif), I took Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time list. Granted this is a subjective & far from perfect list. There are MANY important guitarists missing. But it's a start smile.gif

I took the time to check how many of them were already in our wiki and added the link.

So, what can we do now?

Whatever you wish to write!, a short entry is better than no entry cool.gif, someone can always build on it later.

In our Guitarist Top 5, we have five names, but one doesn't have his own Article........ GUTHRIE GOVAN! Anyone interested? it doesn't have to be five pages, just some general info.

With the untimely and unfortunate death of Michael Jackson, it made me think of a really fantastic guitar player to add, Steve Stevens (Billy Idol). He recorded one track with Michael, called Dirty Diana that has some pretty cool guitar.

I am currently working on:-
Slash
Robert Johnson
Mark Knopfler
Richard Thompson
Carlos Santana
Chet Atkins
Danny Gatton
David Gilmour
Jerry Garcia and
Keith Richards!!!

And you can add Walter Trout to the list as well!!!

By the way, be sure to check that the entry doesn't already exist! For instance, Jeff Healey is already in our wiki, though it didn't appear in the list. Always type the name in the wiki first, just in case. I'm going to add Healey now smile.gif

As they link to bands I have covered I will do

Pete Townsend
Paul Kossoff
George Harrison

There may be some duplication of content is that ok Fran?

When I did the band entries for the above I felt that their most important and influential work was in the context of The Who, Free and The Beatles. Perhaps in therms of the GMC wiki I should have concentrated on the guitarist rather than the band??

There may be some duplication of content is that ok Fran?

When I did the band entries for the above I felt that their most important and influential work was in the context of The Who, Free and The Beatles. Perhaps in therms of the GMC wiki I should have concentrated on the guitarist rather than the band??

No problem, all entries are welcone: bands, guitarists, bassists, gear, theory, etc etc. smile.gif
Go ahead and cover those guitarists smile.gif cool.gif

Hi Fran

Just realised that Kossoff was one of my first entries, your list needs a link.

Cheers smile.gif

We already had Steve Lukather in our wiki, but it wasn't on the list! Now it's fixed.

It's been a while since we don't get some feedback/entries on the list, just though I'd bump our knowledge base Guitarist project up there!

Anybody mention Tony McAlpine? He played in Steve Vai's touring band and is an accomplished classical piano player as well as a solo artist.
