Hi,

I've been playing in this covers band for a while now, and the other guitarist made some recordings on his handheld Zoom H2N at one of our gigs, I thought I'd share it!

Soundcloud Playlist

I think overall the recordings not too bad considering it was just a portable recorder that was used.

The solos are improvised, so they get a bit ropey at times. I thought it was a really bad gig when we played it, but a week later when I got around to listening to the recording I'd forgotten where all the mistakes where so the playing sounds better than I remember it doing!

Hi mate! Based on that audio I can say that you show must have been very powerful! Your band sound very tight and your solos are pure shred!

Your technique is very good, your playing very fluently, all the notes sound good over the songs. If you ask me, I feel that you use too much speed most of the time and it makes your soloing a bit predictable after some solos. I would experiment with more melodies, longer notes, more aggressive vibratos and other things that make your solos more varied.

By the way you must be a very professional cover band and people surely loved show.

Keep on rocking.

Hey buddy,

I do agree with Gabriel regarding the energy of the show - it's clear that you are on a roll there and that you have the right formula to get people going and make them enjoy your shows!

Now, my suggestion would be to invest a bit of time and research into broadening your playing vocabulary and insisting on dynamics and phrasing, as Gabi also noticed, in order to prevent your solos from becoming predictable. For that I was thinking that maybe we can work together if you would like that - I have this mentoring program going on here: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...t=0&start=0

See you, mate!

Thanks for having a listen,

I agree that I'm not a very melodic player, people have said this to me before hehe!

I do want to work on it, but I'm not sure what the direction to take with practicing this is. I get bored improvising over backing tracks very quickly and find it frustrating. I also try singing what I play occasionally, but I don't have a very good voice so it's very difficult. Not in that the pitch is wrong, but more that it actually hurts my head and throat to sing so I don't like doing it. I find that when I'm playing I don't think about melody or rhythm at all, I just try to hit shapes I know will work in sequence, which is why my playing sounds like that. I have a terrible sense of rhythm, too!
