I had my guitar set up today and I'm not sure what to think. They added an extra spring to the Floyd Rose and said it helps it stay in tune better (came with 3, now has 4). It almost feels like they raised my action a little and I have no clue why they would do that. It doesn't sound a bit different to me but it is only about 6 weeks old. Now about the action, it may feel that way because I have been playing my other guitar for two days and the action is extremely low. Is this normal? I don't know what I expected and I don't know if I should be able to tell a difference. The shop has been here over 20 years and I am sure their tech knows what he's doing. Just don't know what to think about it. huh.gif

I think unless you specify what you want as a result of the set up, the tech will do what they think is best/what they prefer in terms of action etc

It's a proven fact that guitar faces have a bigger impact on tone than wood does.

Sometimes you have to get use to the right set up
They probably raised the action so there is no buzz and adding another spring help to stay in tune
You can go back and ask them to lower the action they should do it for free because usually guitar techs will give you a few days to see if you like what they did!

Alex is right smile.gif and there's also another thing, I've been reading in Guthrie Govan's book, a little story about the raised action Garry Moore used to have in order to have a huge tone. Nastier on the player but wonderful on the tone, was the conclusion. You may need time to adjust to it, but hey, nothing comes that easy, does it?
