Do you ever get the feeling that you should be living somewhere else? I'm not talking about desire, as we all would like to live in Monte Carlo, be knocking back some cold ones, with a blonde and brunette under each arm, and living the high life. What I mean is carrying on your existence in another place, where you feel like you belong. I get this feeling sometimes when I hear certain music, particularly Porcupine Tree songs, and when I see certain things on the television. This place for me is London, England, and the UK in general.
Why London and the UK? Honestly I don't know. I've been there many times, and its really not drastically different than my home territory of New England in the US. I always hear from Europeans how much Boston reminds them of the UK. I even think the US, in my opinion, is a better country to live in, especially if you like buying guitar gear But there is no place in the US where you can walk past an 800 year old castle then go have a brew in a 300 year old pub. That vibe of history cannot be replicated. And I think that aura of the past has an influence on the people that live there in the present. I don't know about you guys, but my mood is altered by my surroundings; even the color of the walls affects my perceptions. I'm sure many of you have the same feelings, whether consciously or unconsciously. Not many other places in the world combine the very old with the very new like London.... that speak English as well So have any of you had such feelings? I can see what you mean. It would be nice to live in England - but I have never actually thought much more about. In America we have so many freedoms. ... er... well that it is until the "big shirts" take them all away. Hmmm i dunno...i guess i've grown quite fond of America.

I honestly relate to what you are saying. I think the history of a place definitely is in the air.
I particularly liked London as well, I think it's a city with so much to offer and it's sort a center of the world and that is appealing to me, I think it depends on what you are looking for, like for instance here in Bogota, life is quite different, there's so much good things as well, so the word is DIFFERENT, -------------------- Visit my:

Good question! I really had a deep love of Los Angeles for a while but she is more of a mistress than a bride. I would like to be somewhere in Europe;I think as the Metal scene is a bit more vibrant than it currently is in the states. Perhaps Gothenburg Sweden, or maybe Berlin, or London. All sound great

This is a very cool post, Mudbone
I totally get the call to Europe sometimes. There's so many places that I haven't actually been to that I know I would like. I'm not sure if I could ever permanantly live there but I definitely could for periods at a time Holiday home in Germany maybe.. -------------------- |

Totally get what you mean! Personally, I see myself owning a guitar / musicstore in L.A., playing in a highly successful popunk band, surrounded by hot chicks. Then I realize I'm 30 already
@ Todd: you wouldn't like Berlin, trust me. The music scene is huge but everything else but metal If you guys want a cliché glimpse at Germany, just visit me in the southwest -------------------- |

Maybe its because for a span of hundreds of years, in the not too distant past, it was the center of the world. Also, the diversity of people there is astounding. The only other places in the world that I can think of that have that kind of cultural diversity is New York and maybe Los Angeles. Good question! I've yet to find a place in the world I really feel is home.
I thought Galway would be it, but not so much now after being here nearly 5 years I like the look of Brasilia, but only spent a short time there, so who knows. I used to think I'd like certain places in the US but I think for all the things I'd like there, there would be at least an equal amount of things I hated. It "ain't" like on the tv, that's for sure. -------------------- Currently Working on

For me it would have to be Norway. I have an obsession with their Norse-folk music. I also really want to backpack through all of Norway and go to each individual fjord and visit all the historical sites. Plus, I am a huge fan of Black Metal. It only makes sense that I should visit someday.

Italy, for sure.
I agree with Mudbone, that historic feeling is something that can't be replaced. There's a certain vibe in Firenze or Roma, that I never felt anywhere else. |

I'll stop by where you're at and give you a hard time Yeah...that's not a fantasy of mine, I really want it! I know, 30 is young and I really don't believe in an age barrier, as I also see lots of older men with really beautiful girls. This give sme hope As I said to Ben, whenever you visit Germany, just tell me and you'll get a free bed and a free tour around the place I just happen to live in at the time of your visit -------------------- |

Living in London is a good place to be just due to the diversity. I live about 30 miles west of London (I did live there for a while though) and I am surrounded by History. Windsor Castle is about 6 miles away and on a clear day you can see it on top of a hill in the distance from my village. In my village is an old Iron Age Burial Mound, a Norman Church (Circa 1100 AD), one of the Pubs dates back to the 16oo's although the site it's on is far older. It was the main crossing point for getting across the River Thames until a Bridge was built about 3 miles away and then that became the main point and a Town sprang up around it.
As for living anywhere else? Well, LA was cool and I could certainly live there for a while, would like to spend more time in New York (or Noo Yoik if you prefer) as I have only ever spent short amounts of time there. Seattle was a good place too. New England is very much like England!! I could pretty much live anywhere in Europe, I have enjoyed many trips all over the Continent, Would love to visit Australia and New Zealand, particularly NZ, it's somewhere I think I could exist quite happily!! -------------------- aka The Lone Drifter, why? Any particular place in Germany? Not sure really. I've only been in Westfalen and Lower Saxony. It's funny because they're quite plain but I just really like the roads, buildings, shops layout etc. I remember periodically passing this place called FleischMeister Grill... anything called Meat Master is gotta be good ain't it ? I'd love to visit the South though.. we should descend upon Christian at the same time. That'd be something he could tell his grandchildren about ! -------------------- |
