I was listening to one of Gabe's compositions, which he uploaded and while answering to the thread, I remembered I really miss a place which I used to visit very often when I was a child. It's somewhere in the Carpathian mountains, where my mom and dad have a summer house, where I spent the most beautiful times in my vacations as a kid.

This place has something magical about it - it's SO SILENT that you can hear the raven and hawk wings flapping. Nothing ever makes any disturbing sound there! That place is a true sanctuary of nature! I remember sleeping in the forest with just a blanket to stay on and a fire to warm us, as we went fishing far away into the woods! What awesome times! And there was this cliff which rises above the forest and you can see mountains and rivers from up there...I so loved sitting there and listening to the nature while looking at those beautiful landscapes smile.gif

Do you have a particular place in your country which marked you and left you with beautiful memories?

DUDE! I want the keys to that house! Seriously, I would pay them to allow me to rent it out and record there if I ever made it as a musician. That sounds like the most BLACK METAL environment ever! Do you ever go in the winter?

My envy aside, I think Alaska was it for me. There is a place called Portage Glacier where I trekked for a week trying to find this butterfly that lives only in a quarter mile radius. They will be extinct really soon, so I didn't catch any. They have a bluish silver on one side of their wings; and gold on the other. They are absolutely beautiful. Plus, my Aunt and Uncle's house is right on the edge of a forest. My neighbour and I used to take his dog's back there and go hiking. That is also, where I learned to Cross Country Ski.

Other than that. My grandfather lives in the State of Idaho. He owns 2 or 3 acres of forest that I used to run around in as a kid. His closest neighbour is about 1km away, so I used to a lot of room outside I could explore. I usually allowed my vivid imagination loose. i would run around pretending to be some fierce scandinavian invader, or Robin Hood, or whatever character my mind could conjure.

We would go fishing and camping all the time. I would also work in his car shop helping him restore old cars. I usually sanded and primed the body of the cars so that he could paint them. I actually got to learn how to weld by welding in the trunk of a 1967 Buick Riviera when I was 14. Sadly, he sold that same Buick last week. That thing was beautiful.

Your countries are so huge, and you have mountains! We have hills up to 170 meters rolleyes.gif

So...
I will claim Sweden as a Danish colony, and recommend the area around Kebnekaise.

Pretty much where we already live. Our house sits mre or less at the point where 3 Sierras, 2 of which are protected parks, meet. We're a few hundred meters above sea level in a valley between two quite high mountain ranges. Most of the land is protected but some is farm land and some hunting ranges. Farms here are all small so there is no intensive farming.

Wildlife - well on a daily basis the birds we get include gryphon and Egyptians vultures, eagles, hawks, egrets, storks, grouse and partrdiges and lots of smaller birds; animals range from wild boars, deer, foxes, stoats, rabbits, lizards and geckos to farm animals like goats, donkeys, horses, cows, Spanish fighting bulls, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, pigs (including Spanish black pigs) and sheep. (There's a local guy who herds his free range turkeys up and down the road outside our house twice a day laugh.gif .) We have Cyprus pines, Spanish oaks, cork, carob, almond, pomegranite, orange, lemon and palm trees along with cacti, poppies, fuscia, roses and lots of other flowers growing wild. Cultivated stuff includes beans, potatoes, tobacco, cotton and olives.

Most of the year the days are long and sunny. Even now in winter the temperature range is 12-25C and it's daylight from about 7am to 7pm. Summer can get a bit hot and the temperature has peaked at well over 45C.There's very little pollution, virtually no street lights etc, so the nightsky here is very clear and wonderful. Most of the year you can sit out in to the early hours watching the stars and meteor showers.

I love the country side in pretty much all of Colombia, and the weather is just so great, spring all the time in most places. but if I have to choose, maybe the Sierra Nevada in Santa Marta, just a beautiful mystical place

Nice thread! There are many places in my country that remembers me to my childhood. One of them is Mar del Plata because I always went there with my family. But if I have to say my favourite place from my country I would say Mendoza...

The best place growing up was my grandfathers farm, I stayed there every school holiday. I used to love working with the animals and It had a wood there where I played all the time.
Where I live has some stunning scenery though, in the mountains. This photo is from a mountain about 5-10 mins from my house and I see through my window. biggrin.gif Attached Image

All those places sound great, but yours Tony really sounds like something close to ideal place where I would like to spend my life. Such a nice sounding place..

Not sure what could be my favorite place, but I liked mountains the most when I was a child. Would love to live on one mountain for some time, just to see how it is (and snowboard a bit cool.gif )

I also love the lake District too Ben, but if I had to choose just one area of the UK it would have to be where I am at the moment or Cornwall!!!

Yes, I really do like Wiltshire a lot.. it has a wide, barren beauty about it. smile.gif

I've only experienced Cornwall once on a disasterous trip me and Dad took when I was about 18.. the car broke down on the second day so we had to wait for hours at some garage for an alternator to arrive from Truro.. then when it was fixed we went straight back home. So Cornwall was bit of a washout.. the only places I can really remember are Lamorna Cove and some of them nice towns on the North side with St. in the name wink.gif

Ah, that's a shame! Cornwall is such a great part of the Country! I like Wiltshire too, especially as the WOMAD moved there!! It used to be on my doorstep in Reading (same site as Reading Rock) but moved to just outside Malmsbury on a really nice site in Charlton Park. smile.gif
