Do you ever get the feeling that you should be living somewhere else? I'm not talking about desire, as we all would like to live in Monte Carlo, be knocking back some cold ones, with a blonde and brunette under each arm, and living the high life. What I mean is carrying on your existence in another place, where you feel like you belong. I get this feeling sometimes when I hear certain music, particularly Porcupine Tree songs, and when I see certain things on the television. This place for me is London, England, and the UK in general.

Why London and the UK? Honestly I don't know. I've been there many times, and its really not drastically different than my home territory of New England in the US. I always hear from Europeans how much Boston reminds them of the UK. I even think the US, in my opinion, is a better country to live in, especially if you like buying guitar gear biggrin.gif When it comes to that, there is no better place to live. But life isn't just about what you can buy, as there are many things that cannot be bought, like the time and dedication required to be a great guitarist.

But there is no place in the US where you can walk past an 800 year old castle then go have a brew in a 300 year old pub. That vibe of history cannot be replicated. And I think that aura of the past has an influence on the people that live there in the present. I don't know about you guys, but my mood is altered by my surroundings; even the color of the walls affects my perceptions. I'm sure many of you have the same feelings, whether consciously or unconsciously.

Not many other places in the world combine the very old with the very new like London.... that speak English as well tongue.gif Don't worry you Scandinavians and other Europeans, I didn't forget about you. All those other cities in Europe are fantastic as well. In fact many are even nicer than London, Like Dusseldorf in Germany. They just don't speak my native language of English.

So have any of you had such feelings? Share your thoughts biggrin.gif

I honestly relate to what you are saying. I think the history of a place definitely is in the air.

I particularly liked London as well, I think it's a city with so much to offer and it's sort a center of the world and that is appealing to me,

I think it depends on what you are looking for, like for instance here in Bogota, life is quite different, there's so much good things as well, so the word is DIFFERENT,

You nailed it Daniel, every time I'm in London I feel like its the center of the world, as if all roads lead there. Maybe its because for a span of hundreds of years, in the not too distant past, it was the center of the world. Also, the diversity of people there is astounding. The only other places in the world that I can think of that have that kind of cultural diversity is New York and maybe Los Angeles.

Good question! I really had a deep love of Los Angeles for a while but she is more of a mistress than a bride. I would like to be somewhere in Europe;I think as the Metal scene is a bit more vibrant than it currently is in the states. Perhaps Gothenburg Sweden, or maybe Berlin, or London. All sound great wink.gif

Have you ever been or lived there?

This is a very cool post, Mudbone cool.gif

I totally get the call to Europe sometimes. There's so many places that I haven't actually been to that I know I would like. I'm not sure if I could ever permanantly live there but I definitely could for periods at a time smile.gif

Holiday home in Germany maybe.. wink.gif

Any particular place in Germany?

Totally get what you mean! Personally, I see myself owning a guitar / musicstore in L.A., playing in a highly successful popunk band, surrounded by hot chicks. Then I realize I'm 30 already laugh.gif I can see what you guys love about europe, and you're right smile.gif I feel like I belong to Germany, especially the medium or big cities with lots of cool, open minded folks my age and lots of clubs and a cool music scene. Cologne and Hamburg would be my first choices for that, though I must admit my hometown Muenster has a great alternative and metal scene...so it's likely I'll return home within the next few years once I find a job that is as good and as well paid as my current one. But first I wanna live in Munich for some time, great city. (superize, when I live there you're invited to go to a game with me...you know what I mean wink.gif ).
@ Todd: you wouldn't like Berlin, trust me. The music scene is huge but everything else but metal smile.gif

If you guys want a cliché glimpse at Germany, just visit me in the southwest laugh.gif

I said in reality Christian, not fantasy tongue.gif By the way, 30 is still young, don't let your age limit what you want to achieve. If your mind and body is healthy, then you can achieve anything you put your mind to. Besides, women aren't as put off by our age as we men think they are. I work as door man at a night club, and every night I see older men, in their late 30's and 40's, walking in with young beautiful women. See, women aren't superficial flakes like us men, they're more attracted to charisma and confidence.

By the way, I would love to go back and visit Germany, its such an awesome country. I'll stop by where you're at and give you a hard time tongue.gif

Not sure really. I've only been in Westfalen and Lower Saxony. It's funny because they're quite plain but I just really like the roads, buildings, shops layout etc.

I remember periodically passing this place called FleischMeister Grill... anything called Meat Master is gotta be good ain't it ? wink.gif

I'd love to visit the South though.. we should descend upon Christian at the same time. That'd be something he could tell his grandchildren about ! laugh.gif
