GMC Forum _ Recording _ Another Mix For Anyone Who Wants To Critique

Posted by: Fingerspasm Oct 9 2009, 10:16 PM

Here is another song if anyone cares to critique the mix. I have 2 versions. Number 1 is the first basic mix. Number 2 is what I consider the improved mix. If anyone would like to listen and give comments on what they hear as problems and maybe and suggestions. I still have to add vocals and then run it through T-Racks to add the final polish.

I just thought of something that I am having problems with and that is at around 29 seconds into the song there is some heavy bass distortion from the guitar. He hit that open E string again and let it ring out... Any ideas on how to filter this out? I have tried and tried still no luck.

After listening again the guitars suck.... they are weak in areas and to distorted. I am working on them now. Fortunately I recorded a dry track. So I am going to drop it into amplitube and see what I can do...

After working on it for a little bit and debating it with the guitar player here is the new version. The guitar player did not let me change it as much as I wanted. smile.gif Vocals are next. Hopefully today.

Isn't it possible to just edit the waveform for the guitar and make a fade-out on that note???

Hmmm I will have to break out my Logic 8 book and research that. I need to do some reading anyway and learn how to group my drum tracks etc.

Try to EQ the tracks so you free up the low end of the spectrum, the overall mix lacks presence, and it is muddy.
