GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Song I Recorded

Posted by: sentia Jun 22 2011, 12:15 AM

Hi, I was wondering if I could get some feedback on this song. I posted already in the uploads forum but I guess not many people look there anymore... It is an edited version of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7SuACzCPM0 that I posted a while ago--I took Ivan's advice and recorded with a metronome and added a "bass" track (really it is guitar but I tried to make it bass-like). This is the second song I've ever recorded (the first is http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=38693).

What I noticed myself: I still can't add drums, and the sound quality is bad because of my sound card. Besides that, the solo is kind of sloppy but by that point in recording I was tired and didn't want to do any retakes.

So far, when I showed my friends, I got surprisingly negative reactions. Most people will say "it's good" or "trippy" but not directly that they liked it. I'm wondering if I did something wrong, or if I just have a different taste in music than everyone else...

I LIKE IT DUDE, THESE IN MY COUNTRY IS CALLED "EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC" smile.gif
I DO NOT THINK THAT NEEDS DRUMS.

IF YOU WANT A CRITIC I THINK THAT THE DISTORTIONED GUITAR LINE IS OUT OF TEMPO, IT SEEMS THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO PLAY FASTER THAN YOU CAN, (JUST MY OPINON)

PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE IT BECAUSE YOU SHOW IT TO THE WRONG PEOPLE!!! THEY WERE EXPECTING TO HEAR SOMETHING MORE "COMMON" I GUESS.

True, true smile.gif I like it too and I agree with Nahuel regarding the drums and people's musical taste tongue.gif this kind of music is very relaxing and it induces a calm state of mind!

You're not doing anything wrong, but this kind of music is not the primary by itself, and because it- hasn't special impression! If you put some video(nature, landscapes, water, forest) over it ... then it would be much better overall wink.gif

I agree with the previous comments! It's really cool that you are experimenting with original stuff! Don't worry about bad comments, the most important thing is that you like it and enjoy composing it. Keep on working on your music! smile.gif

Works for me wink.gif It sounds almost like "New Age" or "Experimental Trance" etc. Just keep making music. Not everyone will always dig everything you make. Just part of the game. I do like the idea of putting some visuals in the vid. smile.gif

Thank you all for the advice! I agree that visuals would make it better... Unfortunately I'm not much of a photographer, but I'll see what I can do...

Maybe I was trying to play too fast during the solo, but I think more of an issue was that the distorted guitar was louder than my backing track, so I could only hear the music when I stopped playing--that's why I lost track of the rhythm sometimes. The solo is a separate track, though, so I can try to re-record it when I get home.
