Very cool, with further developments it can probably deliver a promising solution, without sacrificing the tone itself.

Interesting indeed, but I dont really understand why they are trying to emulate a sound instead of doing some new alien-stuff??? My friend got a 60's fretless jazz-bass and there is actually no need to try to match the tone in that one.... I was also thinking of some custom manufactor tried the piezo-technology on basses??? That might be interesting on a fretless bass.....

The lightwave includes piezos that are tied into the optical system to enhance the high end. It can be dialed in via the left-most knob (left-most to the viewer, not the player) according to the video. It's a subtle effect, demonstrated towards the end of the film. Jafo! yeah, the technology is quite interesting, since it enables a real piece'o'junk (like some of my strats) to sound really amazing without spending any money on wood, other hardware issues etc. I think we will see a revolution in the art of guitar building in the next 10 years or so... People are trying too much to emulate the old tones. They should focus more on creating new kind of tones, ones that will revolutionize guitars as instruments once again. Old tones are great, they will always have it's place, but there are so many possibilites today for enhancing it. It's just a matter of time when people start discovering new possibilities. heheh technology seem very interesting and that fretless sound pretty sweet!
 I think guitars will evolve in the years to come... (robot tuning, laser pickups etc)...
