Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Epic Metal Rhythm Guitar by Lian Gerbino

Sorry it's a bit dark. I've recorded this a 100 times, but still I'm not satisfied. But I got to move on for now, take a break from it, and tune my guitar to standard tuning. I really have to relax not to play some of the last parts too fast. At 0:44 I'm to slow. I got an older take, but the pinch harmonics are not that good in this one. which one is best? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBDpaNM9sxw

Not bad, man! But, you have a lot of gain there , reduce it a bit, because you can't get a good palm muting ! You're right, you have a lot of rhythmic oscillations, and I would also recommend practicing at a slower pace. The transition between power chords and riffing are the most critical, there you have to be very accurate. Pinch harmonics is the smallest problem.Focus on more important things, and that's the timing !

Hi Ulrik! Nice take! I will say some things that should be improved on this one. At first you tone. As I said in all your REC takes, your sound is usually trebly and has too much distortion. You timing is not perfect, but it's good most of the time. You just have to adjust it a bit more. The pinch harmonics are much better now but you still have to make them sound nicer. You are getting the harmonic but now it's time to find a cool sound of them. Remember checking Ramiro's lesson about it. wink.gif

Hey Ulrik! Glad to see you in the REC section mate! As Sinisa and Gabe stated, the gain is way to big and the highs as well. Let's focus on the tone and timing for starting out and then the color details, such as the harmonics smile.gif

What do you think - another take, focusing on these things? biggrin.gif

Very nice take! Your timing was almost there, but I would suggest to keep working with a metronome and it will be perfect in no time! The sound is a very big issue here to much highs and gain! I will definitely recommend turning those down!
Also harmonics sounded a little too weak, try using vibrato when you are doing them!
Other than that it was a pretty good take! smile.gif
