hi guys
here comes my question( i really need help -.- ) I'm not having troubles with sweeps anymore, so thougt I - but - well, heres my problem: my guitars strings are very very low and if i have to do a sweep (that looks quite simple) like Eminor shape and on the 4th string, i have to play 12th fret with my index finger, so basically i cant mute it with my left hand, nor, if going down ( upstrokes) with my right hand. So whats the problem? When im coming down the arpeggio and going off the string, it rings => natural harmonic, but still when i keep touching it, there's a n.h. - i cant prevent it from ringing - i can make it last very short, and i can make it be less loud, but i cand avoid it 100% - any help??? thanks guys!!! -------------------- If you think you understood what I said, you neglect that the things you hear, are different from the thing I thought of. - Got it?

I would gladly help you.. but I really dont have this problem.. maybe you can try to move the finger a bit further down the neck, after playing the note, to the spot, where harmonic doesnt ring?

Try to mute with your fingers not on the 12th fret, but a little off if you know what I mean. Can you do that?

Also try to find spot without harmonics, natural or artificial.
I know it's pretty hard, specially on 12th fret but there is a spot. Ohh,and be sure to do some palm muting as well, it's really important when doing sweeping. -------------------- Youtube

Yes Muris is exactly right.
I had this same trouble when starting out with this technique. You have to compensate with good palm muting. Daniel -------------------- Check out my video lessons!

I just started with Sweeps too.. and noticed the same problem - i can mute as I wish with that finger - but even DIRECTLY TOUCHING the string doesnt stop the harmonic. However, your right hand must jump in and rectify that situation
eitherway, this wont happen anywhere else, than at 12 fret on A and E string (maybe D too), other strings arent that sensitive and I doubt pretty much, that you will ever sweep at 24th fret on D/A/E stirngs |
