For those that have not seen this, it's amazing no one was hurt. This past Thursday, shortly after takeoff, the plane crossed paths with a flock of Canadian geese taking out one, if not both engines. The pilot was able to completely change directions to avoid Manhattan and land the plane in the Hudson River!
30 year veteran pilot but geeze, that's some fast reaction for sure. Check it out... -------------------- |

I guess a few geese were chopped, fried and ready to serve after a trip through those jet engines? -------------------- Gear: * Peavey Vandenberg Custom Quilt Top, DiMarzio D-activator set * Peavey Vandenberg 2nd Edition, Bridge Tom Anderson HN3, Neck DiMarzio Chopper * Ztevie's Blue, Custom Handbuilt by Rek Guitars, Seymour Duncan Full Shred humbucker set * Yamaha LLX6 Acoustic * Fractal Audio Axe FX II |

Planes are supposed to be designed to withstand a geese attack.
That Pilot did amazingly well to do that. When stress levels are high he had to stay calm and bring the plane into the river with no time to think just time to do. -------------------- Gear Guitars:- Caparison Horus Snowcloud, Parker Nitefly M, Parker Nitefly SA, Gibson SG, Parker P10e, 40 Year Old Spanish Acoustic Amps:- Framus Ruby Riot 2x12" stack |

They have removed the plane from the river still intact. I guess they really won't know what happened until they review the flight data form the recorder.
Like OC said, one would think that those turbines could handle a goose going through it. Probably were at full throttle too! Seems to me aircraft engineers should design some type of grill for those things.... -------------------- |

Clearly these weren't. And this isn't a joke. It is what they do. They actually fire chickens into the engines to test that they are strong enough to withstand it. Clearly these weren't. And this isn't a joke. It is what they do. I read in a news article that passenger jets can withstand being hit by a 4 pound (1.8 kg) bird, but larger birds or flocks of smaller birds can cause problems. The same source quoted a statistic that bird strikes cause $600 million worth of damage to aircraft every year, in the U.S. alone -------------------- QUOTE If you think you can, you can.
