Hi,
here is my take on the Guthrie Govan riffing. Jimmy tries some riffin' It's a bit sloppy/out of sync at some parts which I have to work on. However I did learn to record a video and put sound to it. If you have some advice for me I would gladly have some. Thanks for your awesome lessons/playing Muris, they really inspire. EDIT: New audio added, should be better now. /Jimmy This post has been edited by JimmyRare: Feb 20 2009, 06:52 PM -------------------- Practice makes Perfect!

That was very nice take Jimmy!!
Now, timing is small problem here, not timing between notes tho, you're aware of that, it's actually timing or tempo along with backing, you're playing too fast compared with it, not all the time but only at certain spots. It's 4/4 time signature and I would suggest you to tap each 4th with your foot, try it without playing for couple of times, only with backing. Try to get that syncopated groove as much as possible and then add your playing to backing BUT try not to stop tapping with your foot, you need to stay in tempo all the time. Tapping or even "headbanging" is very essential in order to keep the tempo and groove. Tiny movements with your body or some parts of it will help you a lot with your groove and timing, it'll become more "tight". Try it and let me know how it goes, record another take if you can which would be awesome to see! -------------------- Youtube

Thank you very much for your great input! You really nailed it. I was feeling like I sometimes got ahead of the backing track somehow and just "waited" for it to come back to me. It didn't occure to me what I was doing wrong. I was actually losing the beat as you said which resulted in me not being very tight at times. From now on I'll make sure to keep the beat with the help of tapping my foot. Hopefully I can back to you with an update tomorrow. Later. Sounds great! One more thing, what I do all pretty often is setting backing track MUCH louder comparing to sound of my guitar, I do that even in studios when recording rhythm parts etc. Try to match mix of backing and guitar to fits you the best. P.S. once you record it you should set it to normal mix, unless you're recording audio via cam mic. This post has been edited by Muris Varajic: Feb 12 2009, 11:34 PM -------------------- Youtube

Hi Muris, I haven't nailed it as tight as I want to yet. In the meantime could you tell me how to import the .fxp-file into guitar rig? Yeah, I just realized there is no option to import single preset into GR, works only for banks, huge miss. But here is solution, be sure to close any DAWs like Cubase, Reaper etc AND Guitar Rig before you start. Right click on preset you downloaded and go for "open with" option or you can double click it and use "chose program from the list", take GR in both cases but also check "always use this program.." before you click ok so GR would open this kind of files by default later on. Then you simply rename it in GR (it'll have no name once it's imported) and save it in bank you want, that's all. -------------------- Youtube

Thanks for your answer, however I still have problems. When I open the file in GR it simply opens GR with the latest sound used. I can't find anything indicating your preset is in there. Hmm, that's really odd, will try to find solution, google must say something -------------------- Youtube

Ha! Believe when I say I've tried google. Who knows, maybe I am bad at googling.. No, I'm afraid you're not bad at googling,it works ONLY with banks so I'll export it for you first thing when I switch to other windows I use, working one. -------------------- Youtube

Hehe, thanks man. Ye, far away from your take for sure! But hey, once you learn a lick like this it should be easier with another one, right? I don't wanna be practicing this hard for everything I play. I mean you nail these kind a fast I suppose? Depends of lick, sometimes faster but sometimes slower. -------------------- Youtube
