Phrasing, what is it? I hear about it every day but i don't have a clue about what it means.
And how do you train it? -------------------- Guitars: Epiphone SG, a really bad Telecaster (First Electric), Acoustic guitar (Unknown brand).

Phrase is like a musical sentence,
think of it as a group of certain licks connected together. However phrasing is not only that, it also has a lot to do with the way you deploy all that, where are accents, how much you express your emotions with it etc. In other words, when you hear some interesting playing, that's interesting phrasing probably. -------------------- Youtube

Muris said it well, it is the name for a melodic sequence that has a meaning, but also it involves details that can be referred to as phrasing effects, like bending, vibrato, etc.

I think i understand what it is now
So there isn't any special way of practicing to get better at phrasing then? This post has been edited by Red: Apr 15 2009, 11:17 PM -------------------- Guitars: Epiphone SG, a really bad Telecaster (First Electric), Acoustic guitar (Unknown brand).

Phrasing is what makes those solos sound beautiful and not "scale exercise" like. Its the way you combine notes to make small sentences - phrases. It incorporates all the aspects like rhythm , dynamics , different techniques like vibrato , bending, hammer-ons....
Instructor David made a lot of phrasing lessons , check them out : http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...from-the-heart/ http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/melodic_phrasing_blocks/ http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...hythm-phrasing/ This post has been edited by Bogdan Radovic: Apr 15 2009, 11:19 PM -------------------- Check out my lessons and my instructor board !
