We're playing this tune at next gig (30th) may.
And I can play asolo from 2:00 till 2:35, around that. I would like to start like they do there, with the bends at 9th fret. But can anyone help me further out maybe with cool licks? I really want some fast legato thingys in there, not that hard, just something that sounds impressive , and frikkin awesome.. hehe. Maybe a little tapping.. I don't know. For this "show" People actually had to buy tickets to see a couple of bands play so... I need to give em something good, plus im gonna be the only guitarist... I hope our singer can play me the rythm in the solo section -------------------- Don't just play it. Feel it!

Rhythm is really simple in there
But be sure that you singer can play it in time and tight enough, because you will suffer pretty much if he will be sloppy and not in time:) YOu better get a loop pedal or processor with that function then you will be sure. Well I think would be great idea to borrow some licks from Trond`s Rock solo series, they are pretty simple but very effective, just change the key to this. Bpm are around 120, so if you can you can do some legato with 16th triplets, it sure will be impressive, but that`s pretty fast.. Legato with 16th notes on 120 aren`t the greatest thing ever so I think you should stick with bends and vibrato if you can`t do triplets Take a look at solo 3:29 it`s mostly done out of arpeggios, ok it`s completely different genre and it`s around 170 bmp, but like Marty Friedman said arpegios will always sound good This post has been edited by AlexLion: May 7 2009, 09:18 PM |

If you can do picked you sure can do legato, because it`s same thing just without your right hand(almost) btw - you can do 16th triplets with AP on 115?

Since when 8th note triplets are normal and 16th not
Jesse legato sound good with right amount of delay and neck pickup This post has been edited by AlexLion: May 7 2009, 09:23 PM |

hell, I don't know:D I set it at 3/4 115 bpm. And I play a triplet at each click. (doing a little gilbert style pattern)

That is most likely 3 notes per beat not 6
Anyways I think it`s very important to do catchy intro and outro of the solo, what`s in between people usually don`t remember. This post has been edited by AlexLion: May 7 2009, 09:29 PM |

I think the original solo note-choices are pretty cool, but you need really good vibrato to make it sound good in this backing.
You could always shred through it, but it won't sound too impressive. Choose notes well, and get the vibrato down unless you have already! I think a mix of legato and staccato would be very nice aswell. That is most likely 3 notes per beat not 6 Lol, who cares -------------------- Eatsleepjam:
Nice Lesson! You said something about how it can be overused, what do you exactly mean by that ? Any tips to not overuse it ? -John Andrew Cockburn: Yes ... play it less often. ________________________________________________________________________________ Guitars: Ibanez 2570Z, Ibanez RG470 (I think?), an Ephiphone Les Paul, a Dean Baby V, and some random acoustic guitar. I think some 16th notes using legato over the B minor would fit in perfectly over this tempo, here's one simple example. Inserting something like this in the solo is not too difficult but if it is played nicely, it can sound nice and effective.
