Attached File  Backtrack.mp3 ( 1.42MB ) Number of downloads: 175
Tempo is 93bpm.

Deadline to signup is Sunday the 7th...
Your solo MUST be submited by Saturday the 27th, if not you won't receive the video comment...

The exercise here is to develop a nice smooth Dorian lead over the backing track.
We'll use the key of A Dorian. You may also use a straight A minor pentatonic scale as both scales share the minor pentatonic scale is found in the Dorian mode.

Here are two suggested fingerings for the Dorian scale:

Attached Image

Attached Image

Of course you can expand the fingerings and are not limited to only those notes, but that will give you a good starting point.

Don't worry about playing fast impressive licks here (if you can that's cool, but that is not the goal here)...
The goal is to create something musical. Be very careful to stick to the rhythm. Try to see this exercise as a story telling session. Create something unique using the given elements. Make it simple so that the listener can enjoy what you are telling him musically.

Once you are done with your solo, upload your take in the upload thread!

Hey David, are you planning to do one collab for each mode? That would be great practice for budding modalists!!

Nice Lesson! You said something about how it can be overused, what do you exactly mean by that ? Any tips to not overuse it ?
