Our band has similar setup for silent rehearsals as well, using 4 channel headphone preamp and a small mixer. Would be interesting to compare prices on these devices.

OK I just found out that this device costs 300$.

For 200$ here is what you can buy and make it happen. It may not be as elegant solution but it offers even more features then the device mentioned:

Tapco Mix 120 (mixer is packed with features for it's size)

Behringer 4 channel headphone preamp (with 4 pairs of outputs)

Behringer MultiFX unit (with stereo effects that can be fed into the mixer)

Hehehehe I wondered when such product is going to be released smile.gif As Ivan mentioned , for quite some time now we are heaving silent rehearsals with great results! smile.gif Generally I now prefer this method in comparison to standard practice room/studio rehearsals with live drums and amps etc. Its just better for practice , you can hear more detail (dynamics etc) and you save your ears.

It's not about dynamics I must say, dynamics is way better when playing in studio, but the overall mix and sound quality is a lot better and on safe levels. Can't beat it wink.gif

where is the rock n roll and the bleeding ears biggrin.gif?
ok this must kick for rehearsal BUT as ivan said this is not news, i think a mixer it's a wiser purchase.

checking closer, this gadget have a very cool thing, that's a usb direct recording out, that's interesting, and personal mix too.

Me and my band bought the Pro version of Behringer Headphones amp (do not remember the model) and we use our console to get the lines of the instruments (we all have v-amps and a virtual drum by roland). I think it's cooler to get this because you can use the Headphones Amp to get Feedback of the sound on the stage using headphones. It's much better than the cabs on the floor

Well that depends of course, I found out that playing in various studios on pour gear (bass amps) resulted in need to play as loud as you can just in order to be heard properly and cut in overall mix. In silent settings I can control sound much easier as everything is balanced well. But studio with good gear is a better solution for dynamic playing in relation to silent one of course.

But I guess its a very different experience for different instruments in silent rehearsal settings. Bass works pretty well in it, also vocals benefit a lot since PA in studios is always problematic...

When dealing with high SPLs on stage or in studio, there is a much broader dynamic range that can be used acoustically speaking. More air is being moved. When plugged in, part of that range is diminished, specially when using headphones. Playing loud all the time in studio will result in poor dynamics, that's for sure.

Hmmm we are rehearsing with our In ear system, but we are not using such a device, we are just rehearsing as we play live, with a full blown backing, our regular monitor mixing console and all the noise that a Metal band produces, just that the sound in our in ear headphones is perfect wink.gif
