So I got a new addition to my small collection of geetars today.

Packed well enough:

Looks like a Peavey of some sort?

Ouch! red!? Girlie color...

A Peavey Vandenberg 2nd edition. The guy said it was mint, and I don't disagree. Not a ding or scratch, and no fretwear that I can see... Everything looks in tiptop shape, no rust on the hardware and the neck is straight as an arrow... Some pick swirls can be seen in the right light though.
Incredible shape for a 20 year old piece of wood...
Needs some polishing, and a string change. I will also swap the pots and the switch, there is some noise going on when switching, a problem my old one also got in the end.
I made a mistake seeling a black 1st edition a few years ago, so I've been looking for another one since.

There's a Full Shred in the bridge but the guy also sent the stock pup. I will try a few other pups in there to find the optimal tone, but other than that, this is a plug and play shredder machine!

Is it me or is either the trem or the humbucker angled? Looks crooked or am I imagining things?!?

Nevertheless, a Great guitar! How much did you pay?

Yes, both pickups are slightly angled. Was popular back then, but I don't know if it does any difference or if someone just thought it looked cool?
Paid 500 EURO, which is ok here in Europe. In USA it's a bit high, but for us europeans order from ther will have to add shipping and tax...

Anyway, this specific guitar is in an incredible tiptop-shape. Who have a guitar for 20 years without having slightest ding, scratch or anything? Not even any fretwear?

Steve Stevens always reckoned that angling the treble side of the Pups away from the bridge slightly took some of the shrillness out of the treble Tones making it sounds a lot smoother from clean to high gain!!!
Congrats on it, that's a great price for a quality instrument!!!

I just got a mail from the seller in reply of me asking the history of this guitar...
He said he bought it from Germany, from some lady who said she's been keeping it in it's case underneath the bed for all these years...
No wonder then... rolleyes.gif

Man I love that Vandenberg shape. That's from Whitesnake era when he played with Steve Vai. Awesome guitar for that money.

Thanks all!
If you sometime get a chance to get one of these, and you're into the shape of it, I'd recommend you buy.
The look of it is one thing, but I'd say the playability is it's greatest feature! The neck is extremely fast, and the guitar is so well balanced.
It's 24,75 scale with 24 medium jumbo frets, the nut is R1 I believe, which means very narrow. Neck is thin, almost as a Ibanez Wizard, but somehow it has a different shape, so it doesn't have that flat backside feel compared with the Wizard. Fits my hands perfect.
The body feels smaller, maybe it's 7/8 size like some of the older shredders, Valley Arts Pro, some Kramers and a few others?
My Ibanez RG1550, almost feels like chunky piece of wood compared to this (OK, slight exaggeration.)...

It's very well built, proved by the fact that when setup, you can set the string height at ridiculous low levels, almost as if the string lays flat to the fretboard. Still no buzz or dead notes. It was the same with the old one I had, so I don't think I was lucky with this specific guitar...

Sometimes they pop up at ebay, sometimes at very low prices depending on the condition... Here are two that's for sale right now, there was one in Germany last week, but it's gone now:

A 3rd edition, sells in USA:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Peavey-Vandenberg-6-st...=item2a034312a7

1st edition, also USA:

Do that! There's a guy here in Sweden selling a blue Vandenberg now, but he's asking something like 8000 SEK, a bit too much in my opinion. Keep a look out at ebay.de, ebay.nl, ebay.co.uk and other european sites, they come up every now and then...

Also, one day I'd like to get either a

Vandenberg Puzzle:

Or a Vandenberg Quilt Top Custom:

Yeah, can't beat the feeling of opening hard square packages, haha...
Also the excitement of what waits inside that box when buying from unknown people you paid in advance. Is it really a mint guitar, or is it a box full of bricks and chopped wood? dry.gif
