Though I'm afraid that I'm not skilled enough to master this classic, I will take part in this competition...after a few days of practice!

I've found one, maybe it would be easier to judge if everybody had the same backing track...hopefully there is a better one than this:

Yeps, Ivan! InTemperate offered a nearly new Wah-wah, so You better start the duck-walk!!! Technically true, Staffay. But I would consider this Vox Wah pedal new - I bought new, not used or second hand, but I did try it out a few times myself once I got it home. The guy at Guitar Center also used it once to show me how well it works, but aside of that it's never been touched and remains in pristine condition. Just for the record, and for the sake of honesty I wanted to let every one know the facts. Like the shelf life of any guitar or amp you may buy at a guitar store, chances are many people have picked it up and tried it out before you ever got there - maybe not those $5,000 + Gibsons though - I think that's why they put them up so high or behind the counter. I know I've spent hours checking out and playing numerous guitars at Guitar Center. So anyway, comparative to most instruments this thing is practically untouched. I wasn't made yesterday, but just as good I think. Edited date// PS. 18 days left to the contest deadline everybody (February 27, 2010). Winner takes all! Whooo! Lastly, besides myself I have 2 other student/ GMCrs on the judgment panel and I'm looking for two more GMCrs and 6 instructors to provide a versatility of judgment for this contest (11 judges total), preferably but not necessarily to complete the contest - either way the contest will have a winner. Anyway, the first to post their willingness to be a judge will be a judge here - until the panel is full. BTW, judges can still take part in the competition but not judge or score on their own takes. See thread one [page 1] for contest rules and photos of the Vox Wah pedal the winner will receive. http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...t=0&start=0 Wah wah is a great prize, gotta go practice! It would be great to hear your take Ivan! Will you be the first to submit a take? I assume most rock guitarists have some version of this classic under their belt - it's sure to entertain most audiences abroad at some point in the show. You rock, man! It was just a joke ofc! Of course, fun and creative musicianship is the whole idea. Any one who participates may win the contest - you can always give the prize to some one you think should have it if you don't want or need it. I hope every one who likes rock & roll and appreciates the classics (students and instructors alike) will find time to share their own interpretation of the music - no reason for any one to feel guilty or ashamed of their ability or skill level here. It's about the music. I'm certainly not getting any monetary gain out of this. I'm doing this for the music, the prize is just for fun. |

Nice i might actually enter this now but only once i learn a few johnny b goode licks! BTW is it true you can play whatever you like as long as its in the johnny b goode style? Your version of Johnny B Goode may be in the style of, but at the same time should be somewhat recognizable as another version of the same song - just not an exact copy of the original. Improvisation is paramount, with all maintaining that Chuck Berry feel. "Gotta be Rock-n-Roll music..." Feel free to improvise - nothing super strict here. |
