So far I was using digital cameras for video production, mostly Nikon D500, D7000 and D300, and they were all producing good results, but I was always missing the HD camcorder feel. Soooooo biggrin.gif

this is what I got now biggrin.gif

Panasonic HDC-SD60

Cheapest native 1MOS HD camcorder (cheapest I could find), but it does the job great, specially in low light conditions! smile.gif It has component and HDMI outs, writes 1080@50i@17mbps AVCHD videos on memory cards, and has awesome zoom! smile.gif

Nice camera, I hope you will be satisfied! I see that it captures in the interpolated mode. There was no progressive version ?!

Enjoy smile.gif I"ve been using a Sony HD mini and a Canon Vixia HD mini cam. I must say I think you might miss the shallow depth of field you can create with a Canon DSLR. But it is really handy having a nice, small HD cam. smile.gif I usually end up trying to put the depth of field back in with the Magic Bullet plugins when I shoot with my Vixia.

Well, the cheapest way to do it is to let your computer do most of the work and just get an HD Web Cam which can be done for $80. Full 1080p HD recording, straight to your machine smile.gif

Thanks mate! smile.gif No progressive version in this price range, progressive recording is usually reserved for more expensive models. It's not a problem tho, there are no interlacing artifacts when playing directly on TV, and there are no after the editing process is done too.

Thanks Todd! smile.gif You mean Nikon cams? I didn't use Canon DSLRs, but I guess they work similar? I did use the effect for some of the video work I've done, but for video production I normally do, there is little use of a very shallow depth of field.

Thanks mate! smile.gif Getting an HD webcam, like some Logitech models will get you there at a fraction of a cost. This cam would be very suitable for home recording only tho.

These cams are awesome at what they do, specially D300. I enjoyed taking pictures with them more tho. The control of the photography process and comfort of use is excellent, who knows what he is doing can make awesome things with it. On the other hand, I don't like the limitations these cams put on recording video. Like the 5 min limit for videos on D300 and D5000 and 10 minute limit on D7000, or not being able to monitor what I record. Also, only D7000 had 1080@24p video, with not so great compression, while D5000 and D300 have 720@24p videos, which is enough now, but not for the future.

Just tested it out today, and the result is awesome! biggrin.gif

BTW, technology really advanced, the cam has some awesome smart functions and BIG optical zoom. It can register a dosen of different faces, recognize them, shoot video or pictures if the person starts smiling, automatically adjusts to the environment just like an eye would do, turns on the light automatically. I'm generally against auto settings, I prefer manual, but this actually works. biggrin.gif It even has a cool playback "highlight" function. Based on the date, chosen time of the video, and registered faces, it can create "highlight video" with focal points, so the material is already edited based on the people who are appearing. It can create several different home videos instantly. Instant home video straight from the cam! (it even has cheesy home video background music built in to support it laugh.gif ).
