Do you ever get the feeling that you should be living somewhere else? I'm not talking about desire, as we all would like to live in Monte Carlo, be knocking back some cold ones, with a blonde and brunette under each arm, and living the high life. What I mean is carrying on your existence in another place, where you feel like you belong. I get this feeling sometimes when I hear certain music, particularly Porcupine Tree songs, and when I see certain things on the television. This place for me is London, England, and the UK in general.
Why London and the UK? Honestly I don't know. I've been there many times, and its really not drastically different than my home territory of New England in the US. I always hear from Europeans how much Boston reminds them of the UK. I even think the US, in my opinion, is a better country to live in, especially if you like buying guitar gear But there is no place in the US where you can walk past an 800 year old castle then go have a brew in a 300 year old pub. That vibe of history cannot be replicated. And I think that aura of the past has an influence on the people that live there in the present. I don't know about you guys, but my mood is altered by my surroundings; even the color of the walls affects my perceptions. I'm sure many of you have the same feelings, whether consciously or unconsciously. Not many other places in the world combine the very old with the very new like London.... that speak English as well So have any of you had such feelings? Cool topic! I always wished to have born in the USA because I feel that it's a bit easier for a band like mine to evolve there compared to Argentina. Here the market and audience is so limited for the music that I do (alternative rock), and is also limited for every style music excepting some weird phenomenons like this one...
