Hi everyone smile.gif I just joined up at GMC this month and so far I love it .The lessons are awesome !

Here is a little bit about myself . I am 16 and have been playing guitar on and off for 3 years , but for the first 2 years all I knew was some open chords . Just in this past year have I been trying to take my guitar playing to a whole new level . I like playing mainly hard rock/metal , but also enjoy a little bit of country . My goals are to be able to play any song by ear , and make up sweet solos !!!
Looking forward to learning lots more about guitar !

Are there any specific techniques you'd like to improve ?

Well like I said before I have been playing on and off for 3 years . And have been playing Piano for 2 years . So my theory is pretty solid . I checked out bear's beginner"s corner and I knew 90% of it . I really want to learn to solo and write my own riffs . I am currently working on Ivan's Pentatonic workshop . What video lessons do you recommend that I work so I can learn to Write riffs and solo ? BTW I learnt the first half of your lesson's scorpions by the zoo . It's fun to play and you did an awesome job smile.gif

I'm glad you liked The Zoo lesson, thanks smile.gif

Ivan actually has a couple of Improvising Workshop lessons which you can pinch some ideas from.

The area of composing solos is a huge one so I'm imagining some of the other guys will share some of their ideas too but from my viewpoint it revolves around creating melodies and learning how to add variations in your playing, like bends and slides and then different note values.

Regards creating variations on a repeating melody, I created this lesson to showcase that idea:

This is a good one for sliding licks:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Satch-Style-Slides/

On the subject of using different note values to create interest and tension: (btw, I'm not necessarily saying you want to learn these, but they show what I mean..)

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Set-The-Pace/

You've already encountered diads - those 2 note chords used in The Zoo. They're a great composing tool, useful as an alternative to standard barre chords.
