I find the GMC forums to be a great resource, but here are some random observations about the forum after using it for a while.
- Organization Maybe it's just me, but I find the organization of the discussions to be hard to understand. I knew this GMC Feedback discussion was somewhere in the forum, but it took me five minutes to find it because it's under the heading "Vintage GMC", which is described "old threads and posts, covered in dust and cobwebs". That doesn't sound like somewhere you'd go to post some new comments about the forum - Performance Did something change with the forum software a few weeks ago? Recently, browsing through the forum is much slower than before for me (Safari 5.0.5). When I click on a forum or discussion, I'm first presented with a page of unformatted text for a second before the display flashes gray and then jumps to the correct page. Looking at it more closely, I can see it's my bookmarks that are displayed for a second or two as unformatted text when I click, before a forum page appears. - Editing Maybe I'm overlooking it, but I don't see a way to edit a post. I know I've done it before though, so maybe it's an oversight on my part? Maybe editing is not permitted after a reply? hmm, I can edit this post. But other posts I've made recently don't show an edit button. - Searching Again, maybe it's me, but I can't find a way to search the forum in a sensible way. Most internet forums permit searching by various means, sorting of the results, display of brief summaries of each hit, choice of post/topic results, etc.. Unless I'm overlooking something, the GMC forum doesn't have any of these features? This post has been edited by Rammikin: Mar 17 2012, 09:50 PM |

I agree with a few of these things, but I have just dealt with it. Let's see what Kris says.

Very cool feedback here -
- Organization Maybe it's just me, but I find the organization of the discussions to be hard to understand. I knew this GMC Feedback discussion was somewhere in the forum, but it took me five minutes to find it because it's under the heading "Vintage GMC", which is described "old threads and posts, covered in dust and cobwebs". That doesn't sound like somewhere you'd go to post some new comments about the forum The easiest way would be to post site feedback here. We are about to close the vintage GMC board to avoid confusion. My thinking is that the less amount of sub boards we have - the easier it will be to navigate the forums. - Performance Did something change with the forum software a few weeks ago? Recently, browsing through the forum is much slower than before for me (Safari 5.0.5). When I click on a forum or discussion, I'm first presented with a page of unformatted text for a second before the display flashes gray and then jumps to the correct page. Looking at it more closely, I can see it's my bookmarks that are displayed for a second or two as unformatted text when I click, before a forum page appears. I do not believe something performance related has happened - however you might have added more bookmarks recently? That could be causing it (especially if you are on a slower Internet connection). Now I have to say that added bookmarks really shouldn't load in the background for every page load. I will forward this to a developer. Thanks again for the feedback. - Editing Maybe I'm overlooking it, but I don't see a way to edit a post. I know I've done it before though, so maybe it's an oversight on my part? Maybe editing is not permitted after a reply? hmm, I can edit this post. But other posts I've made recently don't show an edit button. I believe that members can edit the first 30 minutes after the initial post. Now that's a very good point - I use the general site search for the forum. (this one) However there are two more advanced searches available (number 1 and number 2) I will think about how/if to make these search options more easily available. Please keep the feedback coming - I already think this thread will have an impact on how the site will look/work in the future -------------------- I do not have any natural talent at all - you can beat me with hard work.

I actually have a question as well. I notice that the teachers can post GP files, but the students can't. May I ask what the reasoning behind this is?

Hi - we have tested this and it is possible to upload guitar pro files as an attachment (posted as the student). Could you please try it and let us know how it goes? More details/screenshots are welcome. Thanks a lot, Bogdan -------------------- Need to ask about anything GMC related? Send me a pm

I posted my first youtube video on this site earlier using Firefox 12.0 on win7. I was able to open the youtube widget and post the videos but the widget would not close for me when i hit the x (???) in the top left corner of the widget or the cancel button. I figured maybe "toggle side panel" would get rid of it but it didn't. I had to preview my post to close the widget (i.e. reload the page).

Oh, you are right. Maybe I just need to keep my eyes a little more open in the future. Thanks, Bogdan!
