I had to convert the MTS file to MP4. This should work now. This one is taking me some time to get. I don't have it all the way through. I have some sticking points. Once I can atleast play it all the way through I can work on timing more. The octaves are frustrating, and the 1-3 XXX 1-3 1-3 1-3 002 progression is messing me up.

Mate, I think you have to switch the option on youtube so that I can see the video - it states that it is currently unavailable. There's an option making things: public, unlisted and private. You should switch to unlisted, so that I can be able to see it biggrin.gif

Hey mate! Now it's working smile.gif I just watched and I think that at this point, you should isolate each part and try to play it at a constant tempo. In this vid, you surfed through the parts without respecting a certain tempo. Once you will isolate each part and play it slowly against a slowed down version of the backing track or against a metronome, things will sound better and better. The tone is good out of what I am hearing so, let's pick up the first part of the lesson and try to play it at a slow tempo against the metronome, while shooting a vid for me to see smile.gif

Hi Cosmin,
Here is today's progress. I should have taped before I started getting tired.I forgot to play with a metronome, but I did play with the video. I didn't play with the video for the taping. After 2 hours of hearing that over, and over, it was stuck in my head any ways. Have a good day!

Good morning there smile.gif

mate, you are starting to be more fluid than in the previous takes but still, I would like to see the next take against the SLOWEST backing track provided in the lesson. Try to keep in time because at this point, this is the main issue: you are playing without taking timing into account and timing is OF THE ESSENCE in any style of music smile.gif

It does not matter if you will make mistakes, but try to record against the backing, k?

I will try but, I can can't feel the back track, or hear how it syncs withsome of riffs. Some of it I can, but the beginning part gives me trouble. I will be seeing my guitar teacher tomorrow, he can also make real time adjustments that I need to get the timing, When I play with the video I can pretty much keep in time, but the scratching throws me off. Thanks for the feedback. I will record with the slowest backing track.

Ok, One thing I noticed as I was playing with the backing track, I kept on coming up ahead of the 9-11 riff section. Something felt off, so I went back to the tab, and that's where it was staring at me in the face...the "silence". I didn't add the pauses. So now I have to kind of rework some of my strumming, but now it makes more sense, and closer to what the video sounds like. I will post my progress.

Hey man! Very good! I would suggest that before you learn a piece you should do the following:

- listen to it until it gets into your system
- look at the sheet music/ tab to get a feel of where things are
- sing the piece against the backing track
- learn it in small bits, take them to the original tempo
- tie them together at a very slow tempo then gradually raise the speed till you get to where you need to tongue.gif

Hi Cosmin,
I just got a nice Audio Interface. I have been trying to get that to work. Its a Scarlett 8i6 Focusrite. I have it working with Reaper, and Guitar Rig, but the problem I am having now is when I record even though i have effects on my guitar, its coming out clean sounding.

I also went to my guitar teacher yesterday, and had a great session. I am working on my up strokes, and he tabbed out this riff I was hearing in my head. Which came out really cool.

Also started working on a G major scale that Alex is helping me with.

I agree with your feedback, and I will have something up tonight.

Hello Cosmin,
Here is my a video of my current progress. I am using a backing tape at 50% of the original for the first part. I am going to start working on the second part at the same time working on increasing my speed on the first part, if you think I am ready. The Harmonic are actually easier to do on the upstrokes, than down strokes for this one.

Hey mate! Congrats! I can see progress, as this is the first take against the backing! At this point, my suggestions are the following:

- try to be as tight as possible, by paying attention to what the drums are playing and syncing in perfectly with the guitar over them.
- play as clean as possible without unwanted sounds smile.gif
- there are timing slips here and there, due to the fact that you are still a bit unsure regarding what to play and when

Give this piece a bit of time before trying to jump to another part, I really want you to nail this in the very last detail, k?

Ok, I am not sure exactly how to sync with the drums, I don't know if that was bass, or drums I heard in the backing track.
I look forward to actually taking a good take, when i am not recording, I play better. I like looking at the recordings, because I can see how my timing is, and my right hand. I will hold off going on to the second piece until you say I am ready. I wonder though if starting on something a little simpler, or finding exercises that deal with the various concepts in here separately might be less of a learning curve. In any event, I will keep at it. I can see my improvement. I also know its hard to gauge someone without first getting to know them, so I know the lessons will become more tailored as you see my strengths and weaknesses.
BTW why is my guitar looks skinnier on camera, and I look fatter?? lol

Mate! Your progress is visible, of course but indeed, I think we would do a lot better to start off with simpler rhythmic patterns smile.gif What do you say if we would go for Bear Rose's series on rhythm at first? They will allow you to use simpler forms and work on timing and tightness with them. Your rhythmic sense will be far more developed and you will perceive a lesson such as this one with which you are struggling with far more ease. smile.gif

Looking forward to your answer

hey man! There were a few spots where you were in good sync with the drums, but there's much more work to do on this one. Let's try a good take on this lesson, to start gaining confidence in timing and tightness, plus working with a drum track wink.gif

The backing track is not obvious to where I need to be in sync with except for the beginning, and the end. The middle I have just played along with the instructor to develop my timing. If I knew where I should be I could work on it. Its only 9 seconds long. I will work with my guitar teacher on Saturday. I don't understand though, because when I play along with the instructor in the video I am keeping pretty good timing.

I will try out the exercise you picked.

Hey Cosmin,
I had a great practice. I didn't record anything. The big thing is I am using program called Pitch Switch, basically a Slow Downer.
I took the original video downloaded it, turned it into an audio file, and then practiced with it at various tempos. I did that for an hour. I could get up to 70% without being too sloppy. I then worked on a scale as part of Alex helping me for another hour. Almost learned the whole G Major Scale. I probably going to wait a few days to record my progress. Playing along today reinforced to me that I am progressing, and I just have to be patient. Once I cross that threshold the rest will fall into place.

Hey man! You are MOST DEFINITELY progressing biggrin.gif I mean, if you look at your vids it is very obvious smile.gif now my idea is to help you grow organically as a player, start from down to up. How does the rhythm lesson feel, the new one I mean?

Thanks, well that rhythm lesson is definitely starting from the ground up. I will throw it in to my practice, but my two things I will be concentrating on for now is the MRO, and the G Major Scale. I know what your are trying to do with Bear's lesson, but it has no appeal to me, and I am not very likely to follow it like I am with MRO, and the G Major scale from Alex. I just need to dissect MRO, and do what I am doing, I can see the progress, especially yesterday, but I will give Bear's lesson a shot.
