Hey!

I was wondering if any took part in the open beta this weekend for Path of Exile. If you haven't even heard of it, check it out. It's a diablo-style game that has gone in the direction diablo 3 should have. It combines the awesomeness of Diablo 1 and 2 with the final fantasy VII materia system and the final fantasy X leveling grid system.

I was very impressed with this game and the best part is that when it's released, it's free!

No problem! I probably should have said something before the weekend, but I forgot! sad.gif

I've been waiting to try this game since I heard about it last August. I was really into Diablo 1 and 2 so I get excited for games like these. I still haven't gotten a beta key, but I've heard they will probably do more open beta weekends, and the beta should become permanently open in about 2 months, from what I've heard.

I played through the first 2 acts as the Witch and it kicked ass. The orb system (materia style) really is like final fantasy VII - you put the orbs in slots in your weapons and armor and you can link them together to get different effects.

I don't know if anyone else here has kept up with Diablo 3, but I read about it periodically and I don't like what they've done with the leveling system - stats are automatically distributed and your character can know all of the skills so there is no skill tree (one of my favorite aspects of Diablo 2!). They've implemented a rune system, which I think I have to try before I can really say anything about it.

Any other Diablo nuts here?

I loved Diablo, but Diablo 2 I didn't care for much. My dad loved both of them and spent a ton of time on them. I have a feeling D3 will be a flop. Lately everything Blizzard does they put no effort into making it. Because well it's not World Of Warcraft. StarCraft 2 was a total bummer.

Another Diablo based game is Torchlight, if I'm correct the original developers of Diablo created it. Kind of cartoonish but plays pretty close to it.

Was past midnight when I saw your post, hah.

I've heard great things about Torchlight!

I agree - I was never a fan of WOW, but I'm still going to try D3.

And you're right, the original developers of Diablo did make Torchlight. It's an excellent game - Torchlight 2 is just around the corner too!

I've heard people saying that Path of Exile is more like Diablo 1 than 2. It kind of mixes elements from different games so it definitely has a unique feel that brings back Diablo nostalgia.
