Hi guys! I just discovered this collaboration made by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth). Both musicians are so talented so when I knew about this project I decided to check youtube and this is what I found...

I love Opeth, up to Watershed. Didn't like Heritage at all. Opeth is arguably my favourite band. I like a lot of what Porcupine Tree does as well. However, based on the description of Storm Corrosion it's going to be the outlet for Mikael and Steven's more ambient, atmospheric work. I am not interested in this.
I *will* give it a listen, but I don't hold high hopes. Tis not my style of music. |

Thanks for sharing Gab. I knew about this collaboration and I have seen this clip the day it came out. I really like it. As you say both guys are very talented so it is not surprising that what came out is very interesting. The video clip is very original and the story is very nice in my opinion.
About Heritage, I don't understand the fuzz going on over the internet. Damnation was also without growling vocals and was quite soft. I really like it. I think this is what makes Opeth so unique, their diverse style. Many bands out there, that make great music, just keep doing the same album and it becomes very boring and predictable after a while. Opeth is one of the very few bands that I can listen to over and over again without being bored for this reason.. -------------------- ![]() |

i totally don't understand the amount of dislikes on heritage, i found it pretty awesome actually. I have to agree. I ----ing love that album to no end. As for this song, I like the dark atmosphere, but I just can't seem to get too into any music that Steven Wilson writes. For some reason, I don't feel any emotion in his playing or writing. The only Porcupine Tree album I can really get into is 'Fear of a Blank Planet'. I did like the instrumentation and the overall Prog feel of this song, but something still felt amiss, which is what I usually experience with Porcupine Tree. I wish I knew what it was, because everyone keeps telling me that I am missing out. Yes! I've been waiting for this one.
Heritage is brilliant... really love all the "vintage" tones on that album. Steven Wilson's newer double album is highly recommend as well. I have nothing bad to say about any Opeth album as they are all pretty unique. Btw, Still Life is my favorite from Opeth... and In Absentia by P.T. -------------------- ![]() |

Opeth lovers maybe will hate me but Damnation is one of my favorites by them. This is curious mate! I really enjoy every Steven Wilson album... Pocupine, Blackfield, his solo albums... That second song reminds me quite a bit of the 'Fear of a Blank Planet' album. To me 'In Absentia' has this "lifeless" feeling to it. It is something that I encounter a lot with modern Muzak(See what I did there?) and I think it might have to do with ProTools and extreme editing. It just doesn't sound or feel organic to me. When we compare it to something like Heritage(Steven Wilson did all the Editing and Production work for this album), it feels very much alive. PS. Damnation is amazing. Every album by Opeth is amazing. Watershed is still my favourite though. They had a LOT of Psychedelic and Prog influences on it. -------------------- All the elders have fallen down...

i totally don't understand the amount of dislikes on heritage, i found it pretty awesome actually. Well, my dislike of it is not an intellectual thing that has to be "understood". Music either grabs me or it doesn't, no thinking involved. When I hear music I like, it feels like it's tapping into something inside me that I cannot explain. I generally give stuff at least a dozen listens to see if that evolves over time... and even after that Heritage doesn't grab me. And I love "Damnation". |

Very spiff video! I dig the shadow puppet look they did. The music fits it very well. Almost a short film, more than music video.

Yeah it's a great story . video Reminds me a little bit of the story of Her Ghost in the Fog by Cradle of Filth. The story teller's girlfriend/partner/wife is assaulted and murdered by some churchgoers and then the guy gets his revenge by setting the church ablaze with them locked inside.. powerful stuff ! -------------------- |
