Can some of the instructors record a video of them playing from behind so I can see their thumb position and movement as they play along and across the neck.

I think I've found the source of some of my left hand tension and it stems to my thumb.

I'll also do the same this weekend so you can critique and help.

That was really helpful, my thumb position resemble yours a lot of the time. Maybe it's less of a problem than I thought.

I've been trying to make my thumb at right angles to the neck all the time rather than letting it go almost parallel, but I see your thumb does the same.

I have a sort of "blues shaped hand" syndrom. A lot of players does this. I understand Your confusion because thee is also a almost straight thumb position in classical shaped hand. Many moder players do that as well..

Hey man smile.gif The thumb can have various positions, in respect to what you are playing, so if you could be more specific, at what point does the tension occur?

It maybe more in my imagination when thinking that my thumb position didn't look right. Although I have notice my thumb does drag a little when I move up the neck, which is something I'm working on.

It happens to me too sometimes smile.gif You need to have a lighter grip when shifting positions I think wink.gif But the thumb has various positions in respect to what technique you are using. For instance, where is your thumb seated when you are bending?

Cosmin described exactly how it also works for me. I use different thumb positions depending on what I'm playing so I really recommend you to check my slow videos in lessons to analyze it.

I discovered this by accident, as before I just let it occur naturally, but when the moment to explain it to other people came, I figured i need to analyze my thumb a bit - I discovered a few interesting things of course smile.gif

- bending position
- various vibrato positions
- various tension possibilities
- lightening the grip when shifting positions
- chord grips

There's a lot to look at actually and the most interesting thing is that the body tells us what to do smile.gif
