I was about to buy and old Dave Mustaine Jackson, but, mom dad didn't allow because they are too scared of buying used guitars and they think that a guitar would sound worse after 20 years. The price will be pretty big, since it's made in '89, kept in great condition and signed by 11 internationally famed artists. But yes, indeed, older instruments tend to grow in terms of value, especially ones that have been discontinued as series and they were great instruments even at the time they were being produced. For instance, I learned that my Yamaha FG365s acoustic, was a pretty sought after guitar back in the day it was released and sold as a series instrument and now, since it's not being produced anymore, it's even more interesting I for one love it! Being a engineering technical kinda of person in my day job I can tell you, guitars arn't as fragile as people make them out to be. Keeping them at the right temp and humidity does help them stay setup properly and reduce the risk of a neck twisting. There is only a few things that can make a guitar unsalvageable (from a economic point of view) and thats a snapped headstock (and even this can be repaired) and a twisted neck (and yet again this can actually be repaired (most the time) if you really need too). The trick is seeing these problems to make sure you get the guitar at the right price. Factor in the work required and then decide if that total is worth it. One tip is learning to check for a twisted neck. That is one of the most expensive things to fix. Also guitar pickups loose their magnetic field over their life time and the output of them drops off (this does take a long time but increases the more you have it near a magnetic field so leave your guitar away from ur speaker cab) Some people like these slightly mellowed pickups tho. I've sold some music gear and other items which I wasn't happy about at the time, but I don't regret anything now. It feels good slightly "uncluttering" your life from items you don't really use. I always feel great when I get something which I use a lot and hate rush decisions which result in items/things not getting used much and gathering dust.
