Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Another attempt. Sorry but I didn't realise you can't see part of my fretting hand at times. I have to use a mirror behind my stills camera to see what I am recording and it looked fine in the mirror. Going to get a 7" monitor soon so I can see properly. Anyway, I think it has improved a little. Rip it up :)

Hi mate, I'm here just grading. You already know my comments about this one. However I have to add that the improvements are very visible, and that bending is the main thing to improve to master this one.

Keep on rocking!!

You're doing pretty good with this one. It has become pleasant to listen just as a regular song in radio smile.gif You took a lot of care. Nice timming, proper intonation and good picking strength match. Many good things to be said on this one. Let me spot what could be considered if You would like to tweak your take even more

0:06-0:07 - there are 2 things happening - You hit an open string and You didn't hold your finger long enough (we can here the buzzing coming out when that note rings and it sound like you released a bit of pressure. You need to hold it with similar pressure through all it's sustain time. I guess it is not a matter of bad fret leveling because there is no buzz when you hit the note (0:07)

Hi Phil, it's good to see you've been working on you bending. This may seem strange to say but personally I felt your previous take sounded a lot smoother than this one. You just looked and sounded more relaxed whereas here I can feel your concentration. There's little extra unwanted noises every now and then which don't flatter the overall take.

In terms of bending, you're getting the knack of hitting the right pitch. I didn't really find your bending objectionable in the first take actually but it's good that you're working on it because it is an essential skill. When it comes to bending it's hard to get real results in a matter of days so be prepared to expect it to take longer before it can transform a performance.

I notice that you lose a lot of volume during pull-offs. I think you're being really careful and diligent in that you're making sure you lift your fingers off without hitting other strings etc.. but the thing with pull-offs is that you want to get a little 'tug' when you pull-off so that the finger tip slightly yanks the string enough so the next note rings out too. It's harder with a clean tone but give it a try smile.gif
