Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: B Minor Ballad Solo by Emir Hot

Hi GMC

I have been working on this lesson since December 10th.
I saw the video of Tflava and it made me want to play

Gab gave me some advice and I tried to apply it every time.
I didn’t show him this last take, I hope he’ll see some improvements

If we compare with Emir, I cannot reproduce this energy, this suffering, this howl that characterizes this amazing lesson....
I am realistic, it is still much too hard with my level... But in time I believe it

I wish you a happy new year :-)

Hi mate!

Good job!! I can notice important improvements comparing this one with the previous take you've shared at the mentoring thread. I think that your playing is more relaxed here and that the arpeggio licks are sounding clean now.

It's true that there is some room to get Emir's energy but it's just a matter of time. Your vibrato is good, but I still feel that it could sound more natural and connected to the backing's groove. As I usually say, playing a bit over the original lesson can help with this.

The fasters legato licks are sounding clean, but your hands still need to get used to those lines. I would keep them as exercises for some more time.

Congrats on your hard work!

Nice!

I don't think you are that far away from getting the feel down here.

What strikes me about Emir's playing is that bends are extremely on pitch, and many even pre-bent. You do this good - though there is a little room for improvement.

Most importantly is probably his micro timing. It feels like he starts many phrases slightly after the beat but then totally nails the ending of them (timing wise) - which produces a super cool relaxed yet tight effect. Maybe this is something you could try reproducing?

All in all, really well done - you get an 8 from me!

I have to admit Kris is right in his first impression. You are actually very close to the original feel of the lesson.

I guess there are moments of hesitation aduible in you take. Especially when you bend and vibrate. Sometimes the bent note is flowing too much with it's pitch. These irregularities are main issue in your take.

Overall you managed to get really close with the tone and pick attack needed for this lesson. I see nothing critical here besides minor imperfections.

Sidenote:
When you record a video with a bright painted instrument, it is better to use more ambient kind of light (though transparent, white umberella for example) and directed a little off the center. This way you will avoid "burning" out the whites.
