Hello

I've got a question. I am looking for a VST plugin to create the bassline for recording my own songs, since I don't play bass, just the "normal" guitar.
I've got the Studio Instruments from Cakewalk which includes a bass, but it only contains a few loops. So I am wondering if there are other plugins that can help me wit this. Or is there an option to create your own loops using just my computer keyboard (not the instrument)? Is it also possible to use a drummachine for creating the bassline, and if so which one should I use?

I (now) use Ableton Live from Line6 as a recording tool along with the Toneport GX.
Many thanx in advance !
Kinde regrds,
Vincent

There are VST plugins like Virtuas bassist and Broomstick bass. You'd need a keyboard (instrument) to play the the chords the bassline should play from. I belive these plugins have a visible on display keyboard that you could click for the notes it should play, or rather click A and it plays a run in A.

The hard way would be to open a MIDI track (with bass sound) and click the notes in place. If it's not too complicated runs and you keep the same bassline repeat itself it's possible to manage with just a mouse.
Click in the track where to place the note and drag it to the tone length you wish.

Broomstick bass has an automatic mode that will great a bassline for you, but you need to feed it the chords in Midi.

Putting the MIDI notes in step by step with a mouse istn't that hard by the way, just time consuming when all you want to do is jam smile.gif

Yeah, I use Broomstick bass and (as Andrew said) you can only insert the chords and the VST do the bassline tongue.gif

I think is a really good VST smile.gif

Thanx 4 the help !
I've got a few suggestions to try ! Great ! smile.gif

I also found out today that there are USB 2 Midi cables....didn't know that those things existed. huh.gif
So I ordered one right away! laugh.gif
So I can indeed add the keyboard (the instrument). I thought that that would not be possible because I have no midi port (anymore).(Old creative card not compatible with vista).

Many Thanx 4 the help !

Regards,
Vincent

I must buy one !!! XD
yeah, I know some friends that use a MIDI keyboard and it's so easy to use, just conect the USB cable, and it's very cheap (in comparison with other typical Keys), but you would need the VSTs in your PC

Hi, could one of you give me an eksample of the chords to put into Broomstick, if I - say - play inside the Key of A, pentatonic minor box'es, please ... sleep.gif

I won't give you the answer but I'll tell you how to work it out wink.gif

Firstly, to all intents and purposes, A minor Pentatonic can be considered as similar to A minor in terms of chord progressions (since the penta is just the minor with missing notes). Once you have a scale, you can build chords that will fit it by readin my lesson here!

Sure Juan, you'll need all sound library on your HD.
My keys has 5 octaves tho I've seen small ones with just one or two octaves,
more than great for putting simple stuff like pads etc.

YOu can use Virtuall Bassist. When in Cubase it will get in ReWire Slave mode and will act similar to VST. BUT you have only one octave of bass notes. If you need some simple lines then this is you thing.

Trilogy (indeed pretty much all Spectrasonics VSTs) is/are great - maybe also look at Uberschall Liquid Bass as it has a customised Melodyne front end to the engine. For non electric Vienna. If you don't however want a 'real' bass and want a synth then emulations of Moog synths are wonderful - there are a few around.

Cheers,
Tony

Once more I need to underline one bass sample from Reason, version 2 I think.
Has really weak velocity so you can't do much of dynamic work but its sound is
so steady and massive, cuts through mix really awesome.
Think patch name is like Finger Bass or som.
You can't find the same one in version 3 tho sad.gif
