Juan you are one crazy man biggrin.gif biggrin.gif I understand you because i was thinking about same thing a week ago and you saw my topic about it. But one thing that is different - you already have your degree so you can always go back to it.

Congrats on your decision but still, try to keep your family in good relationship as even music is not worth breaking with those who are closest to us.

Keep us informed on your progress and good luck m8! smile.gif

I have to tell the same thing as Pavel.
What a courage man!
You already have the degree anyway
Wish you good luck for your future smile.gif

My words of wisdom would be to

Always follow your dreams

Never ever live a life to make someone else happy (parents etc) - a life based on someone else's dreams is bound to hit back hard on you.

Having said this - it is of course important to make decisions that are based on reality. This isn't something I have to remind you of Juan - but I am saying it anyway as we have younger people reading this as well: To make a dream come true you first have to study reality really really hard.

Many people live in a dream and what they discover by the end of the day is reality. This is why so many people fail miserably when pursuing their dreams - they simply confuse their goal with the road to success. The road offers no glamour at all - just lots of hard work.

This is just my two cents, of course! smile.gif

That's so true Kris!

Juan, it's really amazing that you can follow your dreams! It's somehow a dream for all of us I think tongue.gif
But not mine in the years to come smile.gif In my opinion you can make such decisions much easier when you have a diploma. So first I'll study hard and then maybe I can do something in music ... I hope biggrin.gif

Well I wish you the best and I'm sure U will make it!!

yeah, that's the difference between "living in a dream" and "live a dream", so to other people how are thinking the same as me: first of all it's important that you think if it's posible.

yeah, I have it, so if I don't have money enough I can work again in another farmacy, because I hope my parents will sell his one.

yeah, that's easier. hehe, I started to study farmacy because then I had 18-19 and of course I cannot play as good as now... BTW I think I must improve a lot so I will write a good studing routine smile.gif (4-5 hours a day plus more time to write songs and to record them biggrin.gif)

Is there some possible compromise ?

Maybe you can pursue both activities at the same time. For instance, work half-time at the pharmacy. And in a few years, when the pharmacy is yours, you can even spend less time there.

Or maybe, you can give a try to this music job for one year, and if it doesn't go as expected, go back to your mother's pharmacy.

Hi Juan,
The maxim I try to follow is:
'there are rarely good or bad decisions, what really counts is how well we implement and live with them'.

I think you've taken a very brave and honest step Juan. Life usually has too many regrets about what we didn't do - this won't be one for you smile.gif . As you are already qualified as a pharmacist you can always return to it if you want, so it's not as if you've closed the door on that career, more just stepped through the door of your full time musician one.

Bravely done and all the best for your music future smile.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

Eh, I'm going to be the devil's advocate here. You're still young, and you think your mother would sell the pharmacy to you in a couple of years, fine. What I'd propose you to do would be keep music as a hobby/part time job while you do your time in the pharmacy. Once the pharmacy is yours, you can hire someone to man it for you and since you own it, you'll still get a bit of the cut I'd imagine, then switch to music full time while having pharmacy as a "hobby" and helping when necessary, etc. If you ever do fall out of love with music and want a more steady paycheck/etc, you'll have to option of returning to pharmacy. Your family's business would still be in the family and you'd have the option of returning to it. Can you moonlight as a musician for a couple years all the while saving up a good nest egg then make the jump into the music world?

I certainly wouldn't leave the pharmacy until you had enough money to pay for 6 months, if not a year's worth of expenses. Living month to month in a field as uncertain as music seems like a very risky idea to me.

My 2 cents. It's definitely doable, but are you really ready yet?

Is working more part time at the pharmacy then giving more lessons/playing music more an option as well?

Rather than working 40 hours a week, maybe hit 20 in the pharmacy, then spend the rest of the day with music?

I'd seek endorsements the second you drop your first EP so you won't have to spend your money on gear, that's for sure.

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor.

My friends friend's band got endorsed by Ernie Ball and they don't have to buy strings and get a little bit of cash from it, strings is something I think you could get with a little luck pretty quickly. In the states, Sam Ash music store will give you $2k a year if you play more than 2x a month and put up a banner at your shows, my buddy's band has that one. Certainly you can swing something like that in Spain. Just remember if you need help with lyrics in english I got your back tongue.gif
