Ok. Here is the deal. I thought I would take the time to really listen to the superposition of pick noise as I played today. Trying different picks as I go. All the while adjusting the pick angle. My conclusions? Doesn't really matter what I do. The only discernible difference I can tell is if I pick closer to the bridge on the unwound strings. So close to the bridge that I have to be pretty much over the pole-pieces. Not really a position where one can easily use the palm for muting as it now finds itself behind the bridge proper hanging in free space. I have yet to test on other guitars but this holds true at least for the Ibanez S470 in its current setup. Anyone else have experience of this phenomenon? Or is there something else I can do to clean up my pick attack? Don't say pick angle. Tried it. Doesn't help.
[EDIT] >> Think I am gonna experiment with treble settings on amp and EQ tomorrow. The Triaxis Treble parameter acts as an extra gain stage and hence tends to be always up fairly high!

As I thoroughly enjoyed Daniel's post linking to a YouTube vid that took a humorous look at Paco de Lucia, I thought I would do a little searching for others in the same vein. As it turns out, the original poster is from Finland! As you can imagine, I was more than a little surprised by that and also too that he was invited to an interview on the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show. It seems there are a bunch of these floating around in cyberspace that would be a real treat for you guys to check out!
Check out the interview here!!

I just had to share this new and upcoming band with all you metalheads out there! I am all gooey with excitement! I only just learnt all this but a few moments ago but not only will there be a debut album that hits stores November 23rd with US label Sumerian Records also too there will be a US support tour!! Not bad for a bunch of guys barely out of their teens.
Check 'em out here at the "Band's MySpace Page" Yep. I may be a tad biased since I met these guys a year or two ago and was surprised at how mature they were for such a young age. We laughed. We drank. They played a gig. I took some photos. I thought that was it. Another band. Another show. Now I learn all this? It seems anything is still possible. Livin' the dream, guys! The new Finnish sensation? The "New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal" (aka NWOFHM)?? At the very least some nice death/metalcore on offer ...

Oh my! I just LURV this chart!
Useful for composition, recording, mixing, mastering or just plain interest's sake.

Given the amount of maintenance I have been performing on my guitars, amps and various gear, the next logical step is for me to add a soldering iron to the toolbox. There are a bewildering array available on the net or in local hardware stores but I have no idea as to how to differentiate them. What features are useful and what are just excuses to hike up the price to unreasonable levels? A decent one would be nice but really I just want one that gets the job done with minimal fuss and could do without the extra bells and whistles if it saves me a few bob.
Thanks guys. |
