Hi! I'm a beginner looking for a new gear (now I'm playing my friend's guitar Have you tried Ibanez guitars? Can you say something about different models? Now I'm thinking about Ibanez prestige with a thru-neck and line 6 pod. I'd want something universal, from jazz to metal; by the way, I love that smooth singing tone of your guitar, clean transparent single-coil sound) Could you suggest something (choosing the guitar)? Also I've always wondered how the neck joint affects the sound. I think, neck-thru should sound more smooth with bigger sustain, is it true? What tonal qualities neck-thru connection gives and does it worth it?

Ibanez is fine brand,I'm not a fan of it tho but it's ok.
Neck through,it gives nice sustain,that's true but it's not main factor in sustain topic,
there is bridge,pickups,body,strings,gear and of course,your hands.

I can't suggest you Ibanez model since I really don't know that much about it,
I have one old Ibanez,from 80s I think,haven't touched it in more than 8 year

But since you're beginner I hope many models will fit you nicely,
latter on you'll see what are you looking for in smaller details.

I'd personnally NOT recommend ibanez, I have one I love it, but, I don't think I'm going to get another, There is a guitar for everyone though, go try out as many guitars as you can, any brand within your price range. I'd look for a feel you like first, THEN look at the tones, the comfort of your playing will make your playing sound alot better in my opinion then the pickups or the wood the guitar is made out of.

You might be embarrassed to play in stores but, who cares you will be spending alot of time with this peice of wood beside you, no point of not embarrassing your self and finding that you dont like this guitar later that month.

Hey I have a prestige neck-thru (RGT320Q) and for me that was just the right guitar. I loved the tone and the playbility made me about 20% faster . But to determine what is right for you what you have to do is go to the store several times and try different guitars (first unplugged and then with amp) as people said.

One of the things that really impressed me was the sustain, but there are many other details that lead to that rather than being neck-thru: the mahogany body, pickups and some less obvious like the balls where strings lie on the bridge.

However, you should look at all the features of the models you get interested. Reading reviews in the internet I can remember of someone who played it and disliked a lot because of the jumbo frets. It has a floating bridge and to me that is two-edged knife. With the right adjustment makes easy for bending. However if you bend and then hit another note it will be a little bit auto of tune. So you have to learn to compensate that. Also, last week I decided to move to a different tuning (Eb) and expended about 4 hours adjusting the guitar...

So in short: amazing guitar but don't go buying without testing it before.

I know that this is Muris's forum, but I don't think he would mind me adding a comment. If you are just starting out I would suggest an Ibanez RG370DX. You can get one of these for $360 and free shipping if you are in the US. I believe that this is one of the best deals out there. This has the floating bridge and it does work if set up properly. The first one I bought was defective, but the replacement was perfect. The RG370DX has great action and the pickups sound great for the price that you pay. Check it out. It sounds fantastic through my Mesa Tremoverb amp.

But still is not like a fixed bridge les paul, which you bring drop d for 1 song during a gig...

thru neck is a gimmick. this has been known for decades, Gibson ran this noble experiment. Sounded good in theory, but in reality does not mean a rat's tush. on a gibson firebird fine, you expect it, that is part of what a firebird is. on an ibanez, who knows or cares in the long run? i would put that money in a better ibanez. actually I would put it into a better gibson les paul, but that is another story.

I know what you are talking about. On several occasions I was fixing to throw the RG370 out the window. After calming down and making some fine adjustments it worked fine. The key here is the fine adjustments. It has to be perfect to float the bridge. I figured that many players use these "floating systems" with great success, so I was determined to make it work.

That said - if I had to pick between my '61 Les Paul TV model and the RG370 - well the Les would win. But, the RG370 will match the Les Paul as far as action goes. Plus on the '61 I am using the original PAF humbuckers which are clean and have a fairly high output. The pickups on the RG370 are impressive for the price.

Hi Muris! I am thinking of getting a new acoustic guitar and your Chet Atkins guitar seems pretty nice. What I wonder tho is how it sounds when it´s unplugged? The body is very thin so I thought it should affect the sound in some way. Will it sound equally much as a standard sized guitar?

Not only it has thin body but hole is covered as well,
so there isn't any acoustic to be honest.
I haven't moved hole cover so far but I'm sure you wouldn't get much with it,
it's made to be played plugged,that's for sure.
Unplugged,well it sounds like electric guitar(power wise) only with nylon strings.

Hmm I didnt notice that the hole was covered Well that settles things up a bit. Guess I should think over this a bit more. Is it expensive?

I bought it for around 700-800 euros,with case.
Maybe you can find it with more decent price nowdays.

neck through designes usally have a bit faster neck, good for rock solos and shred, and many guitars are like this. Ibanez guitars, gibson, bc rich ( http://www.bcrich.com/ im a huge bc rich artist,) and many others. I havn't seen a neck through single coil yet, but there has to be one out there.
