Congrats on the smoke vid, very cool take of a classic.

I have had an Podxt for several years now and I in fact, hate the thing. I get a sound I like at home and it sounds terrible in other conditions, especially cleaner acoustic sounds. I constantly have to have mess with EQ and never find something I really love and it is useless for playing loud no matter how it is set.

And stuff I kind of like never work in other conditions. I have an old didgitech RP 1 and the acoustic and distortion factory settings sounds great in every condition, PAs, guitar amps, computer speakers and even home stereos. I would just use the rp1 but it has other issues, which is why I bought the xt.

I was thinking you might have found or set some patches that you would like to share and maybe some good advice. I think I do have the latest upgrades.

One thing that can effect this is that owing to the way our ears work, a louder sound will have a different balance of eq than a softer one (Google "Fletcher-Munson" for an explanation).

What this means in practice is that a patch that sounds amazing a bedroom levels may sound wrong at higher levels.

I also kind of feel the same about the pod though - more is not necessarily better. Too many choices can just leave you confused., and I think the pod only really shines on high gain stuff where subtlety is not such a requirement. Also I am trying to simplify the effects I use and for lead I am finding that I only really need delay on top of a good tube sound.

So, my advice would be to pare it back to the basics and only add what you need. One of the things I did in Smoke was to keep things relatively simple as I said in the vid - really just and amp and a tubescreamer, and I added a little reverb in the mix.
