Hi Trond,

I struggle getting pinch (artificial?) harmonics, I just don't seem to get that twist of wrist to achieve them, so I'd be very interested in a very basic lesson explaining how to obtain them.

There is one interesting lesson about it by Pavel, but no matter how many times I've tried I don't get how to move the picking hand correctly to hit the string with my "thumb" or whatever the trick is.

I'd need very close captures of the picking hand move, moving slowly to understand it. Hope you can makea great lesson about it!

It's not all about the right hand technique, you have to find a place on the string where the harmonics sound best. There are several places for good pinched harmonic sound, try different locations of the strings.

To me this came natural with time but i still cant do it on the thinner strings but on the thicker it is no problem

Thanks Ivan smile.gif, yeah I've tried that, Pavel lesson explains that part quite good. But I fail to actually produce the harmonic with my picking hand. I just don't see how to grace the string with my thumb while I pick, even though I think I'm doing it at the right place.

These harmonics are tricky.

When you go to pick the string change the angle of the pick so that it is almost perpendicular to the string. Then I tend to almost use the side of the pick rather than the end of the pick, and place the side of my thumb and the side of the pick on the string simultaneously and the picking motion is almost like a "sawing" motion rather than your normal picking motion. You are "digging in" to the string more when doing these. All of this happens rather fast, but that is the basic idea. I agree that a video with some close-ups would be helpful. Sorry if I just confused you more laugh.gif laugh.gif

I achieve mine by showing very little of the pick so its easier to strike the string with the thumb.
To be honest I think its just a matter of feel it would be difficult to show in a video I know its frustrating I found it hard myself.Start around the 5th fret G then start trying to pinch one if you dont get it try moving you right hand A bit and you should get it plus i find you may have to change your right hand position slightly depending where you playing the harmonic

Use the Force fran or as Bruce Lee said dont think! feeeeel it is like a finger pointing away from the moon biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I have a lesson about basic pinch-harmonics that i started on some time ago but put on hold. I'll get it done asap with some more right hand focus smile.gif
