I will keep practicing.

I know it's not perfect yet, but I feel great that I have made some improvement, and I won't be giving up....

just an update......

Still practacing.... My problem seems to be that I am fretting more than one string with my fat fingers.

Is this just finger position problems? Is it just practice to stop this happening?

I don't wanna hijack the thread from dear Kris, but it might just be finger placement problems which goes away with practice, no matter if you want it or not =)
Are you using the very point of your finger, or the underside which goes parallel with your nail?

Edit: By the way, I admire your will to keep practicing!
I've tried to teach a friend of mine to play guitar since he was so hyped about it, but he keeps giving up..

I am determined to play, that's for sure. I don't expect to be taking Angus Youngs position for a while though!!!!!

The problem I am having, and I know it's getting slightly better with practice, is that because my fingers are short,( well they seem to be compared with some of you guys that have posted vids) when I am stretching over several strings the pad of my finger is touching the other strings, although I am trying to use the point.
On the keep practicing point, It was always a boyhood dream to play the guitar, but I never had the time or inclination to do it, (there was always kids out to play)
I'm all grown up now and I have more will power to do it.....

Just keep practacing!!!!!!!!

The only way to get rid of that problem is definetly practicing =)
I have the same problem, to be honest. If I try to hold down several strings at once, especially using my ringfinger and pinky, I often touch the closest string.. Which kinda ruins the melody a bit
Warmup and stretching exercises is a good thing to be doing to get better at this. Watching Marcus Lavendell for example, his fingers are insane when it comes to stretching

I've tried blaming it on my fingers, which are short and weird... But then I discovered Yngwie Malmsteen, and that excuse kinda died away....

Canis has given you some excellent advice here - be sure to follow it!

The only thing I would like to add is that to change your "fretting angle" (which most likely is causing this problem) - you should try having your left hand thumb on different "heights" on the backside of the neck.

I will try moving my Thumb around as I have noticed that it helps with the fretting angle.....

Just to let you know I am breaking it up with lesson two, just to change the practacing sessions.
