I was in Guitar Center and decided to plug my strat into a Fender Deluxe Reverb tube amp.

Suddenly I hate my Line 6 Spider Jam! OH MY GOD!!! The sound out of that thing was ridiculous!!!! It was $1,000...and it stayed in the store. My wife would KILL me if I bought that thing! Man...I know see what all the "tube amp" hype is all about!
Look at Carvin. You can get a Vintage Bel Air for About $600 with shipping. They sound great. I just changed the tubes on mine, set the bias myself (it is easy). Fender is fine. But you just bet more for your money with a Carvin. But don't get the Vintage 16. It is more of a specialty amp, which is ok. But the Bel Air is what you want. You don't hear a lot of people say bad things about them. In fact, I never have.
edit: correction, they are $100 more.
