I've enclosed my attempt at the Phrygian-soloing-beginner. Its the best I've come up with so far but I know it still needs work!

I know I'm not Muris, but I will comment a bit anyway:

First off: the sound is not completely like Muris' sound, which of course is an individual preference. I did feel that it maybe lacked a bit of drive. Did you play this with single coils by any chance? And just in general: what gear do you have?

I actually think that you got the delay/reverb somewhat spot on however!

Regarding the actual playing:

I think your vibrato could use a bit more work, but you are definately getting near something good on this. It might be a matter of confidence. How much confidence and belief do you have in your own playing when playing and recording? I remember a video with Marty Friedman saying that confidence and playing like you really mean it means a great lot.

Secondly... I hear a few timing issues here and there. But nothing that couldn't be gone of soon. One thing I like to do when practicing lessons is both to play along with the backing track but also with the actual lesson video. With your volume to the right level you can really hear if you play anything differently and you can even try to get the right swing on vibrato too.

There were a small bit of noise in the arpeggio section at times, but again - practice makes perfect, and due to your low distortion it wasn't that noticable.

You also seemed to miss a note in the pull off from the 16th to the 15th to the 13th fret, I think it was.

Now, I know that was a lot of criticism, but actually - you are very close to having this down VERY well, you just need to correct all of those very small issues, which can be done in...a very short time!

Hey Cael thanks for your comments on this lesson.

I do struggle to get enough drive on Muris's lessons as you noted. I have a Fender strat with 3 single coil pick up's and had thought about changing them to give a bit more punch. I should however really achieve this with the podxt I play through, any suggestions would be welcome on how to achieve this.

Anyway the solo..yep you're right about the vibrato as its something Muris has mentioned in the past and you're right about beliving in your abillities when recording as I did play it better before I actually hit record...doh! I do tend to get a bit tense espically with the alternate picking section.

As you said a bit of practice will sort the problems out.

Crazyfret, tone wise it was pretty nice imo,
it's surely not the kind of tone I often use
but that's not the point actually, to copy my tone!.
You used Strat with single in bridge and that's what you get more or less,
pretty bright tone with not too much power and output which isn't wrong at all!
However you might wanna put some heavier pickups
if you wanna get more gain and distortion without too much noise etc.
Playing wise it was descent, there are some timing errors
and as before you guys always seem to play BEFORE actual timing,
like you were afraid that you'd be late and you wont!
Relax, tap tempo with your foot, play it kind a lazy,
even try to be LATE here and there, that would sound
more smooth compared to playing before actual timing.
Also try to get more vibrato into your playing,
there are many longer notes in this lesson,
you have plenty of time for vibrato,
good work so far, keep me updated!

Definitely agree with you on the timing issue it is ahead of the beat and prob why I feel I can't get the ammount of vibrato as you do in this lesson.
