Ok, call me naive, dimwitted, a GMC:n00b or whatever you will.. I was just pondering this for a little.
What if GMC had a "guest instructor" invitation sent to well known guitarists around the globe? Sure I understand that most professional musicians just wouldn't have the time or the inclination to dedicate a few hours to produce a lesson and we have so many AMAZING instructors already (I am not unappreciative of this at all), but you never know. Maybe, just maybe someone would oblige..
Imagine that, a lesson by one of your long-time guitar heroes, and imagine how many new members that could attract.
Yes, I am clueless about the logistics and policies of such a thing but I just wanted to put my crazy thoughts down

I dont think its crazy, some very good guitarists already do workshops and stuff so its not that different to do web lessons, I bet if anyone could do it it would be GMC, the only thing would be the fee I suppose, it might have to be on a pay-per-view or something! Still its an interesting idea, what harm could come of asking??

I think we already have enough materials from our instructors. When you have perfect take on Extreme Neo-classic, you know you've got it.

That's not the point. If you complete all advance lessons here at GMC (theory knowledge included + proving your dexterity in collabs) you can all yourself a VERY advanced player. GMC does provide everything to go from zero to hero. The point here is to attract even more people around the globe, so if Guthrie Govan, Paul Gilbert or Jeff Loomis would just pop in for a short lesson... I wouldn't be surprised to see 20000 members here in a relatively short time.

EDIT: And it has already been proved by several member confessions that the presence of Marcus Siepen from BG already attracted many people.

I'm not sure I agree actually. Yes we have a brilliant resource and, as I already said, lots of superb instructors and lessons - but there's never enough to learn. I can only speak for myself here; yes I'd be proud to be able to perform the perfect take of the Extreme Neoclassical lesson or whatever level 10 lesson, but I wouldn't stop there and think that my guitar mastery cannot be improved.
My original idea albeit a crazy one, was more out of interest for creating a bit of publicity for both GMC and artists and attract newcomers in the process. I NEVER meant or even thought of it as a criticism on GMC. As Sted has pointed out, many artists hold workshops and if producing a special lesson for GMC means garnering more publicity from a site with more than 7000 members and a heck of lots of passers-by, perhaps even getting some new fans in the process.. surely that's a good thing. No?

I used to do a lot of martial arts and we would get guest instructors all the time, its not a slight on anyone else, nor would they take it that way, in fact I reckon the instructors would love it as well, after all we all want to be the best we can be and absorbing things from other musicians is how we all develop a wider range of skills through experience.
I know for a fact that Guthrie runs 1-2 day courses through specific "guitar break" type getaways in the uk and that he and other well known musicians have contributed to other certain websites (I wont mention the name, im GMC through and through!!) alright you're not gonna get Steve Vai, but there are a lot of other guys who im sure would welcome the chance to teach 7000 people some of their trade secrets!

I didn't say that you can't improve more than Extereme Neo-Classic, what I meant to say was that you are then ready for fine-tuning your skills, which IMO can be only done with experience

It's just a question of value. Most of those rockstars will ask for FAR more money than the instructors here. I prefer to have 10 lessons from the current instructors to one from $randomrockstar. Licensed lessons of well known songs would be nice and probably less expensive though.

I hope we can get to this when have more administrative personel - chasing "famous" guitarists and then try to make them produce lessons according to gmc standards requires a lot more work than to accept then ones that apply for the job!

But this is something we want to get to - for sure!

Oh and a light version would be to just try and get more "famous" guitarist to join us in the chat (like a chat event) - that could be cool as well!
