I thought it would be a good idea to put our video cameras (and how much you've paid them if possible) in here so people could see what are we using, and maybe get an idea what do they need for their recordings!
Here's mine (bought mine second hand for 90e)

Click to view attachmentCanon Elura - it was about $299 a year ago, now discontinued, but its cool I like it. Of course I don;t do much with video, but may in the future, and I will definitley be needing some lighting when I do as I am now recording in a dark basement!

Welcome to GMC Marcus!
Originally I bought this webcam to chat with my wife while I was on tour, but it works very well for recording lessons at home too :-)
Thanks a lot to all of you for that awesome welcome, it is great to be a part of this whole thing here at GMC :-)

You are getting great results with that cam !! Also Muris is getting great results with his digital camera..I'm just using this setup because my friend is willing to lend it to me whenever I need it..It also have its downfalls like having too much options to setup in order to get a good picture..If I didn't have it I would use a normal miniDV cam or yours and Murises solution since both give great results..

The camera is just a small factor in doing these lessons. The good idea of the lesson is the most important thing imo. This topic is just for showing what we have from gear, not comparing.

True, the lesson itself is more important than the equipment that we use to record it. But yeah, actually this is something I love about my webcam solution in the moment, the default settings work pretty fine, I hate messing around with huge cryptic menues...

Picture quality isnt the best, but i'm learning how to use it properly more and more.
But I am looking on getting a DV cam real soon.

I think lighting is waaaay more important than the camera anyway - even a good camera looks bad with poor lighting ...

I think it goes like this, mathematically
good camera + good lighting = excellent results
good camera + bad lighting = good results
bad camera + good lighting = good results
bad camera + bad lighting = you get e-mailed by Kris

Sony DCR DVD 201 don't buy it, mic in produce lot's of noise, so you'll have to keep sinc the audio.

Mar 17 2008, 10:43 PM
I sync audio one way or another.. You mean you can't even sync the audio because of the noise? there are no wave peaks?

Will get one of these before the weekend i hope.
Was waiting for a replacement web-cam, but then i saw they had a good offer on this. So i paid the inbetween and went for a minidv instead.
Anyone ever tried it or know if it's any good? Cant find much reviews, but it's canon so i assume it's good. Canon MD110 to be precise.

I'm not sure for this specific model, but when buying cameras like I think there isn't too much worry - they are all built on the same platform and all very look alike and similar electronics inside. I think this camera is great btw.

@Trond ,
Thats a very cool cam as I heard..Minidv cams are doing great job for these lessons...
@Joe ,
Great equipment man! What does that pinnacle card allow you to do ? Is it doing great real time effects ?
Joe Kataldo
Apr 5 2008, 08:40 AM
Well the pinnacle apart from doing Divx conversion (I suppose hardware), I don't really use it for GMC lessons, anyway edit in HD, import and export analog video from tv, VCR, DVD Player Divx Player, Sat Tv, and has two fast firewire ports
I've bougth it mainly to record from analog sources like old VCR tape and convert them into dvd and Sat Tv
:-)
